Fozzer's Mega-Bleedin' Spam...!!

Postby Fozzer » Wed Aug 17, 2005 5:55 am

Hi lads...!
Your old mate Fozzer with more problems...

I am getting drowned in Spammers sending me e-mails marked as "Mailer Deamon", "Postmaster", etc all claiming "Returned un-deliverable mail", etc, mostly with attachments for various services, etc...!!
I had this problem recently with a "Trojan" virus, "Newdot...".
I quarrantined it and deleted it with the help of Norton, the C Cleaner, and Adaware, (and with the help of Webb).

But now it is all back again, with a vengance....150+ Spam mails within a 6 hour period, every day, sometimes one per minute...!
It is filling up my mail box with giga-bytes of Spam..!
My Service Provider filters most of it out for me, (bless 'em), but for me it still takes ages to check which is actually Spam and which is "genuine" mail for me, and then delete all the crap...!
(My service Provider must me getting annoyed at all this "stuff" filling up his hard drive every day...)...!
I have done the usual scan, but cannot find any Trojans, Virus's, etc which may be causing this...
Does anyone else have this problem?

Any ideas as to a cure...?

Here is an example....part of six bleedin pages of crap received within 6 hours of off-line activity....arse'oles....LOL...>>>

Image

Thanks for any help...
...(in shooting the arse'oles, etc)...!

I got hit with this recently Paul, 300-400 a day for about a month and then my email provider sorted it out. No idea how but I don't get more than 2 spams a day now.
Probably best to contact them and complain...

Hi Ozzy, me ol' fruit... ;D...!

Just contacted Wanadoo/Freeserve by phone at 50p per minute to discuss the problem..
...quess....that didn't last very long... ;)...!
So no help there...
They suggested that my Norton Anti-Virus shoud be sorting this out automatically....
...but I reckon that Norton only deals with "Virus's" rather than the annoying "Adware" Trojan Horses.... >:(...!

Just done a scan on all my hard drives with "Adaware" to detect any Trojans, etc...nuffin'.... ::)...!
...still this bleedin' crap comes through...!
Life is too bleedin' short to have to sort all this dross out every few minutes... :o...!
I'm becoming a ravin' alcholic* tryin' to empty my in-box every day due to these ars'oles burrying me under crap mail every few minutes/day... >:(...!

Are you all feeling sorry for me...::)...?
..if not, you should be... >:(...!
LOL...!

Cheers...!

Paul...

I barely get any e-mail except for those who I know. I'm using Outlook Express.

As for your problem, Foz, get some anti-psychotics before you go nuts. ;D

Paul, for all your spam worries, remedy them with a simple dose of "Mailwasher" - Christ! I sound like a doctor!  ;D

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_d ... &fileidx=1

used it for about 18months works like a charm, lets you bounce & block whoever you want before they get to your Outlook inbox.

Enjoy. ;)

Paul.

Hi Paul

Yep I know the problem! I run a website and get over 2000 emails a day, 90% or so being spam. I can't tell you exactly what to do but I've noticed something that might make it possible for you to filter it out and delete it automatically. I'll put it as simply as I can:

Basically all the spam email in your inbox, the subject starts with ***SPAM***, right? Now your average spammer isn't going to put that in the subject to tell you straight away, and also they wouldn't all be the same. I assume therefore that some piece of software somwhere, is detecting spam and adding ***SPAM*** to the start of the spam emails it detects. This could be something on your PC or done by ISP or even the mail provider.

The point is that you need to look for a filtering system AFTER mail arrives. It might be called Filter/Filtering/Rules or many other things. Basically you want to create a "rule" that says "If my incoming mail has ***SPAM*** in the subject, delete it".

Most providers have a service to do that, as do Outlook and Outlook Express. Have a check around and you might want to give your wanadoo a ring as well to ask about it.

Unfortunately this is about as far as spam filters usually go - to add something to the subject line to make it easy to filter it. However you've gotta realise in your particular situation, 95% of the work has already been done.

Here's a screenshot from my Outlook setup to show you what this looks like in practice. The bottom section of the window is the one you'll want to read.

Good luck mate, you'll get there in the end 8)

Jon

Edit: Just realised, all that spam is in the Junk folder! Any reason why you can't just delete everything in that folder?

Hi Jon...!
My incoming mail is handled by my Service Provider and they automatically filter it out, mark it as "Spam" and stick it in my "Junk" box.
I can then delete the contents of the junk box all in one go, then go to my Outlook Express to read my "propper" mail.
The thing is....Is there a way of preventing all this "Mailer Daemon returned mail" stuff from being received by my ISP.

Note that the "Postmaster" amd "Mailer Daemon" mail is different from the usual annoying spam mail....
It gives the impression that my internal mail is being automatically sent out and then bounced back to me as "Undeliverable".... :o...!

Cheers Jon...!

Paul. I just checked out Wanadoo Webmail help. http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/help/id/7097.htm?linkfrom=communicate_email_default&link=fs3T_3_2Link2&article=COM_email_spam#section_1

How anti-spam works

Anti-spam is a simple and effective service from Wanadoo that identifies and filters spam email (unsolicited junk emails). When an email is sent to you, it goes through our intelligent anti-spam filters and, depending on the content, will be delivered normally or will be clearly marked as spam in the subject line.

Once you have logged into Webmail, you can choose to send all spam emails straight to your Webmail 'Junk Mail' folder, where they will be deleted automatically after 7 days. If you choose this setting, spam will no longer be downloaded into your Outlook Express Inbox when you receive your email.

If you choose not to download your spam emails, we recommend that you log into Webmail regularly and check your junk mail folder for emails which may have been incorrectly identified as spam.

Paul. I just checked out Wanadoo Webmail help.......

Hi Doug...!

Ta, Mate... ;D...!
I do use Wanadoo/Freeserve for my incoming mail, together with their various filters.....
I then report/delete the spam mail in Wanadoo's "Webmail " mailbox.  then pop over to Outlook Express to open up my "proper" mail.
The problem I was having was in receiving all this large amount of Spam every day...curious... ::)...?

Now...
You can knock me dahn wiv a fevver...
two days ago I deleted ALL the cookies in my Cookie Folder, and Hey Presto!...practically all my Mail Daemon/Postmaster/etc Spam has almost disappeared... :o....!
WOWZERS... :D...!
What do you reckon... ;)...?

The only slight snag is that I now have to type in the full URL in the whatdoyacallit box every time I visit a different site...
No problemo tho' if it stops all the Spam filling by shoes up... ;)...!
I'll see how it goes for a few days...
Cheers...!

Paul...the only cookies I need are chocolate biscuits... ;)... ;D...!
LOL...!

Hi Foz,

remember this

Brandon

Cheers Mate... 8)...!

P.S. also, I never store e-mail addresses, etc, on my computer, they are all stored in my little paper book... 8)..!
