XP "Admin"

Quick question here. The computer that I use for FS, the internet and such is on one username, with my dads stuff as well. My question is if I get a username for myself and have it set to "admin", will that screw up the other username?

Thanks

James

Are you running XP Home? FS2004 will not run without being an administrator. It is listed on the Microsoft website http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;893677

I really hate all this "Admin" stuff in Windows XP...

We never had it in good-old Windows '98SE....
You switched the 'puter on, it booted up, and it went straight to the Desktop screen...no problemo... 8)...!

Now when I switch on I have to hang around for the Admin window to pop up, and click on it, before I can get to my Desktop...bleedin' annoyin'.... >:(...!

Tweak UI for Windows XP will get rid on it, but only temporarily...

It really annoys me 'cos I'm the only person who uses my computer... >:(...!

I don't have to "Log out" when I go shopping and "Log in" when I come back home... >:(...!

It's only Canadian Lumberjacks who have a fascination for "Logging"... ;)... ;D...!

LOL...!

Paul...'bleedin XP... >:(...!
LOL...!

Hmmm? This works perfectly for me and is definitely permanent:

But if you're not happy with that do the following:

1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box.

3. Click Apply.

4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.

5. Click OK again and you're all done.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon... ;D...!

What I meant by that was....
If you use a register cleaner/ registry fault finder, (Norton Utilities), etc....It sees the change to the registry details as an error, and converts it back again to the XP default Admin settings in the next boot-up... :'(...!

My aim in life is to permanantly change the Windows registry settings on my hard drive to delete all reference to Windows Administrators... ;)...!

Administrators remind me of the sort of people who tell you what you can do, and what you cant do, etc.... >:(...!

...OOoopppsss...
...just remembered...we've got them here...:o... ;)... ;D...!
LOL... ;D...!

Cheers Jon...!

Paul...Who needs Foreman and Chargehands?... >:(... ;D...!

P.S. ..I'll try out your second suggestion of changing the settings... ;)...!

Half the computer attacks on home systems is because you are running in admin mode. Unfortunitly there is nothing you can do about it. you need to be in admin mode for most games to work correctly, even microsofts own games http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;893677 . Under linux you dont have these problems everything seems to run perfectly ok in normal user mode and so it should. The only time you should need admin mode is to install or remove software or to make changes. Everyday computing should be done  as a normal user. your computer in admin mode is open to the outside world for everyone to access. Microsoft could learn from linux when it comes to setting up user accounts.

Ah right I see your point now. The second one (should) work permanently though as I think it dumps its settings in an .ini file or similar, which is not anything to do with the registy.
