My EZ Armour virus scan has detected four infected files which are associated with Javs\Sun\Deployment. Other than coffee, what is Java and is it necessary to have it in my PC ? If I delete the program, it should take care of the infected files. Or will it?

Just delete the files .......... I'm almost certain that they'll be in the cache and not needed for the day to day running.
Java is not 100% necessary. However alot of websites etc use javascripts to show their material and therefore wouldn't show properly if atall if you don't have java enabled on your machine.

Delete the files. Generally, that will take care of the files unless the files are self replicating.
If Java starts malfuction, just reinstall it, its free. goto java.com to download the runtime.
Java is used by many sites and is very common. I recommend you uninstall your Java component though ad/remove and reinstall it.
