2 utilites you MUST have!!

Postby Dan » Thu May 26, 2005 4:54 pm

I have been using them for while in my rig, and they are definatly spyware free, and freeware. And they will amke your PC go faster!  ;)

C Cleaner

Diskeeper Home

Both can be d/l from those links. When I ran C Cleaner on my rig for the firt time, straight after the windows cleaner, it got rid of 1 (ONE!) Gb of Cr@p! Diskeeper is an awesome thing too, far better than XP's defragger, let alone 98's!

Let me know if you try them!!

Dan ;D

Beware Diskeeper!

great until it decides to delete some vital system files!

I would'nt touch it again with a barge pole.

I'm not the only person who's found this!

I've found Vopt XP far better for defragging. - No system screw ups since I replaced Diskeeper with it!  ::)

Even more important than this crap, MICROSOFT ANTISPYWARE.

Google it and download it!
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
GeForce FX5200 256Mb
1GB DDR400 DC
Seagate 500Gb SATA-300 HDD
Windows XP Professional X64 Edition

That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they

Since M$ created the ultimate tool for spyware developers to gain control in the form of Windows Messenger, and a spyware friendly browser in the form of IE why would one want to trust thier spyware program?
Actually I think M$ itself is the biggest peice of spyware ever made, every bit of M$ software "needs" to connect to the internet, why?

Where do you get your information? Or are those opinions? Yes, actually, that is exactly what they are.

Plus, windows messenger is easy to remove if you know anything about using Google...

And why do I trust their program? Because I've tested it and it works.

Well yes they are opinions much as yours are in your post, but they also are tried and tested by me ;)

Plus, windows messenger is easy to remove if you know anything about using Google...

And yes windows messenger is easy to DISABLE you can't remove it, and no I didnt need to Google to learn how.
Might I ask why would you trust a non-Microsoft antispyware program?

And why I would trust a Non-M$ spyware is the same as you, the M$ spyware software was non-M$, until recently MS putting thier name on it, I did try it when it was known only as Giant and it was crap ;) And why would MS want you to use thier spyware software? Simple becuase others detect MS spyware ;)

If you know what you are doing IE is more secure than Firefox IMO

WRONG, IMO
look at the track record, FF has had how many attacks? One in my recent memory, and IE? I cant count that high.

And Firefox doesn't have automatic update

Wrong again
Firefox does automatically update, it just doesn't install until you verify you want it to ;) There is a nice little icon on the top that will change color when the updates are availble, it is up to the user to allow a install, which is the way it should be, MS forces one to many "updates" that do none other than cause kaos for people and ther computers.

Where do you get your information?

I wonder now where yours comes from???

Looking at things like you do all companies and people are suspect to purposeful wrongdoing because of any mistake they have made in the past.

I usually grant benefit of the doubt first.
I look at their past track record and also personal experiance, then I like you will take the chance and give it a try and unfortantly most things MS don't get better.
Seems M$ keeps repeating thier mistakes over and over again so it is hard to overlook that.

I test and try everything, if I see a recommendation I will try it, if someone posts a new piece of software I will try it, and when done testing and trying I will go to various forums and read others experiances, and then I will report what my findings along with thousands of others are, and to be honest seems my information or opinions are shared by a lot of people ;)

And you know the funniest thing is I don't have any piece of paper hanging on my wall stating I went to school and  I'm a "Professional", I learn and gain knowledge from experiance, and trial and error, and research, that is where my info comes from and where my opinion is based ;)

Sorry for ruffling your feathers if M$ stuff works for you then so be it, but the way you bash other software imediately  instead of posting some usefull info regarding the original topic, I have no other reason to feel than that you either gain advertising royalties, or you must be one of them "Professionals"
;D

Edit: Just to be fair and reasonable I went ahead and downloaded and tested the M$ Anti virus, did a update to make certain all was current and on initial scan, nothing, not one thing found, what does this mean? Means that the free software I currently runs seems to be working.
I then loaded some files with well known spyware, the "Big Eight" as known to Lavasoft (Ad-Aware SE) ran a scan with M$ AS, and came up with.........nothing.
Ran a scan with Ad-Aware found all Eight, ran a scan with Spybot- found seven.
My personal opinion? I guess not anymore a opinion ;)

Speaking of Firefox, is a replacement for MSN Explorer?

Just curious.

Firefox is a web browser, usually used a replacement for MS Internet Explorer.

I had to Google to find out what MSN Explorer was but it looks like a web browser.

If you want to install and use Firefox you do not have to delete or replace any other web browser.  You can get it here http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Ok, MS basher Politically Incorrect, why don't you go to hell. I'm not a MS fan, but seriosuly, there is something called linuex. Use it if you don't like MS products. I use linuex and windows and can't complain about either.

I hate MS bashers, don't use their products if they are 'spyware'. There are so many other options out there that MS bashers, like politically incorrect, just look like idoits. Its one thing to complain, but PI makes it seem like MS is force feeding him crap. MS is not. don't like their OS, there are others out there.

Lets get a couple things straight

1) You can remove windows messenger from your computer, not disable, actually remove.

2) Windows Antispyware is based on Giant antispyware, but MS improved the hell out of it. PC mag recently did a review and found it was quite competetant in removing spyware. It may not be the best, but its far from being bad. Don't believe me, feel free to contact PC mag and tell them of their susposed incompetence. Nobody is forcing you to use it, so if ad-aware suits you better, stick with that.

3) IE is full of security holes. It is NOT more secure than firefox. Why, becuase its *(^*ing old. Firefox is new. Patching a old program vs. a new one. Firefox at this stage is much better than IE6. for right now, firefox is THE way to go. As for the attacks firefox has got, well, its new. IE6 has been around for ages (which is it's major security flaw).

4) Firefox does have auto-updates. Just click the red tree icon.

5) As for windows forcing updates upon you that cause choas, well, MS can't figure out ever possible senerio, so there's bound to be a few users who have trouble, the same applies to firefox (or any software), I've have trouble with it's patching system before too.

The_Autopilot is right. There are tons of free Linux versions out there. I you've got 08/15 hardware without the need for special drivers, go for Linux!

Ok, MS basher Politically Incorrect, why don't you go to hell.
:D Easy there mate no need for hostility.

I'm not a MS fan, but seriosuly, there is something called linuex. Use it if you don't like MS products.

I never speciffically stated I hate all M$ products, but there are a majority that have a long history of major problems that never get fixed ;)

I hate MS bashers, don't use their products if they are 'spyware'.

I don't use the products that can and should be considered spyware
There are so many other options out there that MS bashers, like politically incorrect, just look like idoits.

Sorry maybe it is me but seeing how upset you are, I'm apparently not the only idiot here, after all I have yet to attempt to insult any forum member by name calling ;)

Its one thing to complain, but PI makes it seem like MS is force feeding him crap. MS is not. don't like their OS, there are others out there.

Never mentioned not liking the OS, but parts of it.

Lets get a couple things straight

1) You can remove windows messenger from your computer, not disable, actually remove.

Really? How? It is part of the OS, thanks for your input but without a explanation or a link showing how rather useless, hey and I even Googled it and found thousands of page stating the fact you can not remove it! ;) So who do I belive?

2) Windows Antispyware is based on Giant antispyware, but MS improved the hell out of it. PC mag recently did a review and found it was quite competetant in removing spyware. It may not be the best, but its far from being bad. Don't believe me, feel free to contact PC mag and tell them of their susposed incompetence. Nobody is forcing you to use it, so if ad-aware suits you better, stick with that.

That is a fair statement, which is why after posting I did download and use it just so I could base my opinion of it on personal useage, and that I did, Giant-M$ whatever the name now I still find it to be crap and thanks for the advice I won't be using it.

Obviously you forgot who you were bashing or you didnt read my whole post just the parts that pulled your short and curlies.

5) As for windows forcing updates upon you that cause choas, well, MS can't figure out ever possible senerio, so there's bound to be a few users who have trouble, the same applies to firefox (or any software), I've have trouble with it's patching system before too.

So bottom line is you agree with most everything I have said but yet felt it was necessary to call me a idiot and send me to hell? Read my sig mate ;)

Ok, when the cat-fight is over, I will try to explain why I like them!

First off:

Beware Diskeeper!

great until it decides to delete some vital system files!

Why does it do that? Just curious I thought it was only supposed to DeFrag, not delete? Or are you confused with CCleaner?

Since I have used these two things my score has gone up by at least 500 in Mark01. BUT if what Paul said is true, Diskeeper will be out on next boot!!  ;)

I've got nothing "Concrete" apart from both Me, and two of my friends had major system problems after a few days of Diskiller..... ;D probably just a coincidence, slightly unlikely that all three of us had same issues though.

I'd had no problems prior and none since, which has convinced this jury.

As for our married couple ,thanks for the laugh!  come round to my gaff and have a smoke & brew with me.  ;)

Areyou talking about actually removing the windows msn messenger? Or the network messenger that can be REALLY annoying until disabled?

I believe the following page either explains it, or gives you a link to the other version of it...
