PC games....Is anyone buying them...?

Postby Fozzer » Wed May 11, 2005 1:54 pm

Hi All... ;D...!

I popped into my local game store today to see what's on offer.
A few new games.
Zillions of re-issues of old games.
..but..
no-one seemed to be buying anything, certainly not PC games... :'(...!

I can remember the time, long, long ago, (1980), when the world was full of excited 8-bit computer game enthusiasts, waiting to get their hands on the latest cassette game for the Sinclair Spectrum, Commodore 64, etc, etc...!!

Has the bottom dropped out of the market for PC games..?
Have they all gone over to X-Box, etc... ::)...?

Cheers all...!

Paul....(Sinclair Spectrum 48k enthusiast)... ;)... ;D...!

Times have changed. Broadband was invented and when the internet became avaiable for everyone, it was the birth of warez. *shrugs*

..and all the new "stuff" looks, and plays, very much the same as the "old stuff"....just "fancier" graphics...  ::)...!

Let me give you an idea of how many games I've brought recently. Earlier this year I brought H&D2. Before that I brought Vietcong in 2003 and before that I brought CFS3 on it's release. Those are the last three games I brought. :P

"I got a million of em!" NO, really! Well, maybe not a million but I got enough of them to make the wife give me the EYE.

Don't just buy anything though. It has to catch my eye first. Then I will read some reviews on it. Check out the games forums and see what's being said.

Last few I have bought are Half Life 2, Far Cry and Silent Hunter III. Love all of them!

PC gaming is hot, otherwise there wouldn't be such a big market on the graphics cards and new....bigger and badder ones being released every few weeks. lol
Systemax Sabre Ultimate gaming rig.

I got all the goodies and all the power I need to run anything thrown at me for the next two months!

I don't buy nearly as many PC games as I used to, I would rather play on the Xbox or PS2, PC games are great and the current consoles can't match the amount of content which can be included in a PC title, but over the years as PC games require more and more resources to run, I kind of get tired of trying to keep up with everything just to play a game, not to mention lock-ups and compatibility issues between the software and hardware, basically in my opinion modern PC gaming although very cool at times, has become more of a pain in the ass than ever, so that is why I pretty much stick to gaming on my consoles these days.

I've actually considered getting into console games for the same reasons Paz has.  It won't be long before my 2.0 with a gig of RAM is completely incapable to do anything other than spreadsheets.  lol

What about buying online. Surely that's a reason for lack-luster shop sales.
