I prefer the tom clancy rainbow six series over the swat series.

I hate R6's planning mode, I prefer the possibility of sponaneous tactical decisions in SWAT.

I think i will stick with socom. With 3 coming out in the autumn, and it being bigger and better, its worth the wait.

Well, SWAT to R6 or SOCOM is kind of apples to oranges.  SWAT requires the faster reflexes and thinking, since every time you see someone it's a shoot/no shoot situation, as opposed to killing everyone (which is fine too-huge fan of SOCOM, don't really care for R6).  Really sharpens the quick thinking and reflex skills!

I have Hidden & Dangerous 2. Give's you a FPS with the tactical planning option thrown in should you want to use it.

I also have the original rainbow 6. I became so good at the first mission (the embassy one) that I could complete it in one minute twenty seconds. And it took one minute to get into position.

Thats a guide line only and you do make spontaneous decsions when your in the actual map. If you don't like planning, theirs an action mode.

Pre-operation planning makes the game much more realistic and makes it tactically challangeing.

I agree with the last comment. R6 takes the fun out of the game.

Here's R6:

Alpha go! Your teams run into the location, you here back ground shots being fired. You here Tango down, you hear officer down. Only problem is your worried about what is going on in your particular area and you haven't a single clue whats going on in the other end of town!

Sometimes the AI teams actually finish missions for you. That is what really turns me off with R6. With your team you like to take your time check each room and move slowly. The AI teams just bust down doors and automatically get shot or shoot the bad guys. They do this while running and not moving tactical.

Now Swat4 is much more indept and real:

Its you and 1 team 4 members. You can split the 4 men into two teams to carry certain tasks like open and clear rooms, or cover you as you move into a blind area. The mission is more fun because you see the drama unfold infront of you instead of behind or beyond your site of veiw.

Don't get me wrong R6 is a great game, I prefer playing it in custom mode where I can pick one team to go in and take our time and play the game out like Swat 3. The campaign mode just sucks.

I have been playing the demo and it is mad funny and fun to play! Check it out it is worth the download time (cable and DSL users). Even if your on 56K (hopefully you won't get knocked off) just download it and walk away and watch TV or something! GO CLEAN YOUR BED ROOM! This game is off the hook I already reserved my copy!

Guess its a matter of taste.

But i still prefer r6 over swat, mainly because of the reasons you list above actually lol.

I playd Swat 4 Demo did not like it, I went in there with Police wapons, Tazer, beanbacg shotgun etc and it took like 3 beanbags on some guys to get them to surrender and they shoot you, 1 shot with a bean bag I would not be able to turn around and fire the gun, Could be fuun but next time I will take a Tazer and a real gun, if they dont submit with the first taze they will submit with one in the head...

dude this may not be the game for you! Swat 4 is about taking the bad guy alive and using deadly force only when necessary!

You may want to check out Socom or Rainbow6. where the game is nothing but kill on sight or be killed on sight!

Swat 4 is a tactical (take your time and analyze the situation before you take action) game!
