I am operating system ignorant, so please bear with me!

I am currently running an overclocked AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 512DDR, MSI K8T NEO, overclocked MSI FX5500 Vid w/ 256M on Win ME, Dx9c.

FS9 has never been more stable with great FR's. Of course I just dumped an AMD Athlon 900mhz and Win98!

Will WinXP really give me a significant FS9 performance increase over WinME. I've heard that WinME is pure crap, but I have not found that to be the case.  A computer tech at a local computer show said I should see a nice performance increase BUT NOT ON GAMING! I don't know whether to believe him. At this point, I don't know whether to spring for WinXP upgrade at $99, the WinXP full-install at $139 or just wait for Win64 and blow a much bigger wad!!

Thanks

Win 64 is a beta. Its good. I have it MOst programs install and run. But there are a few quirks.

WinXP is generally better and I recommened it. Most programs (including some games) are optimized for it.

Plus, it offers the latest in protection from virus and all that icky stuff.

As for whether or not to go for the upgrade as opposed to the reg versian. Well, thats a matter of preferance.

If you still have the ME cd (or any other win 98 or higher OS cd), buy the upgrade. If you don't, get full versian. I say this bcause, someday, you may want to reinstall the OS.

XP compared to 98 or ME (essentially, the same OS) is akin to comparing a Spitfire to an F-16.

Win 98/ME is obsolete, XP is a FAR better OS, when my system was "dual boot", Win ME benchmarked about 30% slower than XP on the same system.
