Has anyone use DirectX Eradicator 1.09 Beta 2?
I have some files missing in DirX 9.0c. I have tried reinstalling on top of the old one, but it is not replacing the missing files. So I guess I need to uninstall and reinstall?

Simpley reinstallig Direct X over a corrupted install normally will repair it and replace missing files, etc

Are you shure it's a DX file that is missing and not a graphics card driver file?

When I run DirectX diagnostics I get the message in the file section " missing files dplaysvr.exe, dpnsvr.exe, ppvsetup, and joy.cpl.
When I go to Direct Sound I get this message " Failure at step 3 Direct Sound Create HRESULT 0x88780078"
That is why I am thinking its DirectX files I ma missing, also I did reinstall my sound card driver.
No change  >:(

First off have you installed or uninstalled anything lately just before this started happening? Usually system files like this don't go missing unless something is drastically wrong. Have you searched your system for these files. They sometimes have to be in more than one location ie. NT Services and System 32 folders. Also they might be files that DirectX needs but aren't really DirectX files.

It could also be a registry issue. You may have the files but the registry doesn't reference them. I would bet that DXDiag only searches the registry to see if files that are needed are available. It doesn't do a whole system search.

The big question however is how did these go missing. If it wasn't a change that you have done recently then you may have trouble that's bigger than just missing a couple files. Windows is usually pretty protective of it's system files. You may want to run an online virus scan of your whole system.

This problem started when I used a program to delete "duplicate files" . It was a mistake on my part to delete some of the the duplicate files.
Now what I am trying to do is to see how I can restore and or replace those files.

Hi Chief..are you on win XP?..if so try going back to a previous time..like before you deleted the duplicate files..commoner  ;)

Yes, I do have XP, but that is something else that is not working, I can't get Win-restore to work!
I dont know if that is also missing files.

In that case you can't hurt much trying DirectX eradicator and a reinstall but in my opinion if a reinstall over top with DirectX didn't work then it's likely it's not a DirectX file that's missing. It's most likely a system file that DirectX needs but is part of Windows.

Depending on what type of computer you have you may be able to boot from the Windows XP disk and choose the option "Fix Windows". That's worth a try at least. It's better than a reformat and reinstall. Whether you can do this or not depends on the computer. Some package computers will only reformat and restore your system back to how it was when you got it.
