Hi all

I hope youre having a good new year, I have just set up a computer for the mother-in-law and she wants perental control software installing, can any one recomend a free program. This is so that the grandchildren can play games online without being watched all the time. Many thanks Chris

from my experence, parental controls suck. They don't really prevent kids from messing up the computer.

Just have a antivirus and some anti-spyware and the comp will be safe from generally anything the kids can download.  Gving them a limited account and restricting access to thhings like the control panel and my computer (and the hard drives) will prevent the kids from messing up the computer settings.

I think he is refering to something like the "V-chip" for television, so that the kids don't wander too sites they shouldn't be ;)

Thats whats needed. The children play games online and it only takes a missprint to go some where they shouldn't. Regards Chris

Have you looked over at Downloads.com??
Also I know you may not want to but go to a adult site, many will have programs listed right on the enterance page .

I'll have a look around tonight and if I find anything i'll let you know.

What you're looking for is Net Nanny or Cyber Patrol. You're going to have to pay for them though. I don't think there are any similar programs that are free but I could be wrong.

Well too be honest I Googled Parental Control Software and it came up with literally hundreds of programs and information that may be your best bet is to do some research.
Like Eno says it appears they all cost something but with some of the features looks to be worth the price for what they are intended for ;)
Some offer free trials, that would be the best route it will allow you to try features before buying.
If I come across any freeware i'll let you know ;)

Again thanks, I used "Ask" to search with and came up with hundreds of payware offering free trials from 15-30 days, the price seamed ok at 30 quid but then Iam not the one paying!!
