Its Scanias campaign to banish '98 ;D
Sorry Paul, no edit honstly! That's what I get if I try to run Doom3 on my '98 partition.
Just used paintshop for the screenie - really! - I would'nt try to hoodwink you would I ? ;) :-X :D
Heres a fix, it works on my '98 setup although it plays VERY slowly......
First and foremost
DO NOT USE SETUP.EXE TO INSTALL THE GAME!1. Manually create a folder where you would like Doom III to go. I.E. C:\idsoft\doomIII\data\base (You absolutely need to name a folder data and inside that folder another folder called base.)
2. Copy all pk4 files from each CD to the data\base folder
3. Copy the Doom III executable to the folder named data.
4. Make a backup of the Doom III executable and store it in another location on your harddrive. (We are about to edit the Doom III executable doom3.exe)
5. Download this simple easy to use hex editor named very simply,... Hex Editor
http://www.expertcomsoft.com/6. Install Hex Editor and open the DoomIII exe (doom3.exe) within Hex Editor
7. Click edit on the toolbar to open the edit menu options. Within the menu that appears click Find.
8. In the find box type "GlobalMemoryStatusEx" (without the quotation marks)
Now press ENTER.
9. You will now see highlighted GlobalMemoryStatusEx. The last 2 numbers of the GlobalMemoryStatusEx section are 45 and 78. Change both numbers to 00. In other words change 45 to 00 AND 78 to 00. You may possibly need to make doom3.exe a writeable file before you do the above. When you copied doom3.exe from the CD it was read only. To make the file writeable right click on the file then go to properties and click the checkbox for read only to remove the check mark.
10. save the new Doom3.exe and play to your hearts content.
I hope this works for you.
