How about this to help with frame rates!

Postby pooty13901 » Mon Aug 16, 2004 7:36 am

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is old/new info, but I recently downloaded a program called "Ad Aware" that acts a lot like Spybot to clean up files infected with spyware. I did this and came up with 261 files that Spybot wasn't catching. My frame rates bounced back up to where they used to be making me very happy. I thought I would pas this on for anyone interested in taking a look. This a freeware and you can find it at:

http://www.lavasoft.de/

and click on Ad Aware Personal Edition (free version).
I wanted to forward this info becuase I was really getting sick of worsening gameplay until I got this. I hope it helps.
Awwww, crap!

It's a good prog.  I use both.  I'm surprised Spybot missed so many entries.  Are you updating it regularly?

Excellent tip.  I also use Spybot S&D as well as Adaware 6.0.  Updated and run frequently along with my Antivirus they provide a 1-2-3 punch which knocks out the baddies terrorizing my PC!

I thought spybot no longer supported updates, when I try it just doesnt connect with them.

I didn't realise spyware would have such an impact on FPS.

It's always a good idea to use two or more spyware utils. One single utility just doesn't always catch everything that's plaguing a system. I use about four different utilities just for spyware and another for viruses.

If you are really concerned that a piece of spyware or hijacker has gotten through try "Hijack This". It lists a bunch of processes, programs and registry entries and lets you sort through and remove the baddies. Just make sure you know what you are removing before you do anything. Hijack doesn't distinguish between good or bad. It lists everything and you have to analyze the log. If you need help there are several forums that will let you post your Hijack This log file for experts to look over.

I was having similar problems and then found that I had a older version.
You might need to download thier latest version if you haven't done so already. The version I have is 1.2.

I just want to let everyone know that Spybot 1.3 is out. You can get it at http://www.download.com. Just search for Spybot. I believe the new version scans for 13,000 different things instead of the 6,000 V. 1.2 scans for.
