Changing Operating Systems

Currently I am running FS9 and various other MS sims with windows XP.  However, there are a few older games that will not run with XP that I would like to be able to use.  Would it be a bad idea to reload 98SE?

What about using the compatibility wizard?

I know Janes WWII Fighters (Released in '98 I think) works on XP Home without any tinkering 8)

Hey Hi-D,

I'm not sure how to use it ???

When I installed WWII Fighters, I didn't need the Program Compatibility Wizard ???

Best thing I could suggest is to read about it in the Help and Support section in the start Menu :)

Hi Hi-D

To use the compatibility mode on a CD game you need to copy all the files from the CD to your HDD. Then right click the setup.exe (or similiar) and click on the compatibility tab. Then choose the OS that the game was made for - see the min. specs on the back of the game case.

Then run the setup and the compatibility settings should be transferred to all the game files.

Also if you can find a No-CD patch then use it.

Cheers,

I found out how to do it.  What i do is browse the cd, right click on setup.exe and go to properties then compatibility and change that to windows98/windowsME.
Then run the .exe
Install the game
get an XP fix (this is needed for Redalert)
put this in the redalert folder on the hdd then change all .exe files in there to windows98/windowsME compatibility mode then run it. It works now! ;D
