What the hell is this?

Would someone explain to me what the hell "backweb agent" is and just why it is that I need it on my computer. It does notheing but slow up my connection but Spybot says to leave it installed. I've read around and I still don't get exactly what it is for.

You may have this for legitimate purposes, so check it out before deleting or uninstalling. The first link gives you some good gen on how to deal with it.
