XP or Vista for Gaming

I guess if it's a home build I would do XP but my HP's vista just totally rocks crysis and FSX.

You are running Vista and FSX...

If Vista and FSX is such a good set-up on your computer, tell us why we constantly see you desperately trying to connect with our Server during our FS 2004 Multiplayer Flights...

..and having absolutely no success whatsoever.... ...!

Stupid linksys router only likes FS9 default multiplayer But, FS9 is just as good as FSX. (Using FSHOSTspy)
I've always had this problem. May not be the router. Changed routers 3 times. Dlink...linksys...belkin. FSX+Vista=not bad...but not great but better than XP.

And... soon enough 64bit apps will be the norm.. and computers needing 4+GB of RAM will be the norm.... AND.. ensuing generations of DirectX will push us all, not only into Vista.. but into 64bit Vista.

..promise me that MegaVista, 1024 bit, DX18, 56 GB Ram, etc, will still run all the zillions of Year 1980-2000 games in the crates in my spare room...

I can think of very few new "Games" that excite me nowadays that would encourage me to spend mega-bucks on computer upgrades every six months.......!

I would rather spend the money on a new Petrol Lawn-mower...
..or a nice new Gas Cooker...
...even a nice new Piano..!!

Computers, and Computer Games, are not really one of my expensive addictions..

Yup. Give in. 3gbs of RAM is becoming standard on computers today. Go to bestbuy, you'll see what I mean.

...my existing 2.3Gb of RAM is more than enough for everything I throw at it with Win XP.....my 2.6 GHz Processor... and my 7800 GS Graphics card... ...!

No problems with anything I am interested in running!......!
....any more expense not necessary..!

Hard one.

If you HAVE a Windows XP laying around, OEM, then chuck it onto your new computer.... and install Vista LATER. Otherwise, I would probably chuck in Vista.

I have XP Home, couldn't be bothered with Vista and all the potential problems and the fact that DX10 doesn't have major improvements over DX9 (Currently). Perhaps later this year, I'll buy some new RAM.... 2x2gb DDR2-1066.... Vista64... new power supply.... CPU cooler.... then OC this thing to like 3.4ghz. Mmmmmmmmm.

Ok...I have thought it over.

I will install XP Pro or Media Center on the Machine SP2. The motherboard will most likely be a nForce780i.


Any more opinions or theories are very much welcomed.

XP Pro > Media Center. I run both (one upstairs and one on the downstairs PC), and XP Pro is much better. For gaming, media center is so full of crap that the starting processes are easily up in the 50's, eating up precious system resources. My current XP Pro startup list is running at 33 proccesess, much less of a memory hog

I'll run it with XP Pro 64bit if I can find it at the local hardware supplier.

I am a huge Vista fan but use XP on my work computer because of the BOTs we use.

For gaming I use Vista 64 and have never had a problem with it.

It has been my experience that Vista 64 is faster and more responsive than Vista 32. But that might be my perticular computer.

My grandkids favorite computer is the old windows 95 computer in the basement with all of the old games that are more suited for their age.

Whats the best OS? Users choice I would say.

I have made up my mind for just now that I will use XP pro 64bit. But the thing you just posted leads me to belive that both OSs are about the same.

And.. the reason I'd go with Vista, is that it's already a year old.. and any subsequent DirectX won't be available for XP..

I got a feeling that to take full advantage of PCIe2.0, you'll need to be on the newest DirectX..

I'm a 74 year old Great-Grandad, and my 2nd Hard Drive has Windows '98SE installed on it to run my zillions of fun, "Old Games", which I prefer to play more often than most of the "New Stuff"!......!
