I liked the NFS series until NFS Underground. I think NFS5 is the peak of the series and it goes downhill from there.

Big deal - they just bought a license and pasted a logo on parts of the car. How about realistic physics? Wait, the game would be no fun because a Dodge Neon is definately not a thrilling ride.

The story mode has lines like:

"I'm gonna take your car then I'm gonna take your girl."

I'm sorry but lines like that are insulting to my intelligence.

The cars are lame - Dodge Neon, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic. I can have more fun driving to get groceries in real life. It's a stupid game made to make money from teenagers which is why the only people replying are so young.

If I were you, go to websites like CG Society or Renderocity. You will see how much effort developers have put into these car models and you will also see how much experience and patience is required to even bother to make one. If you think you can do it better, then quit complaining and try making one yourself. If you can't do it better, then buy some other racing game or sim and stop complaining.

I have been working on car addons for FS for about three years and you won't believe the amount of effort I had to put forth. And that is just for making the visual model. Don't forget the textures, the panel, programming the sounds, and having to hit the books on the dynamics files. I know, none of my cars are perfect, but at least I'm doing the best I can.

So, in short, hush your mouth and do your research on 3D development and programming before blurting out any ill-informed critizism about the hard work put into NFS.

Pardon my attitude, but I just get ticked off by people who act like jerks.

I'd hate to say it but none of those screen shots looks particularly real to me.  They're all overly dramatic, like they're coming out of a comic strip or something.  I guess I'm just a fan of more boring graphics.

I can't say I'm a fan of the Need For Speed series.  I'm a simmer at heart and the games (even Porsche Unleashed, often touted as the most realistic of the series) are simply not sims.  Which is fine, if you're looking for an arcade racer.  Certainly the cars are drool worthy.  But as a simmer I gotta say I'm left underwhelmed.

If you want to give a decent sim a shot look for the demo downloads of GTR by Simbin.  I haven't tried GT Legends yet, it's on my list for once my computer upgrade is complete.  Again, it's available as a demo download to check out for free.  Or if you can dig up an old copy of Grand Prix Legends.  Even the 1998 graphics engine puts out good realistic visuals when spruced up with all the latest patches and add-on textures.  If you're a MSFS fan you'll probably enjoy the different driving experience sims like these provide.

Well ya, if your looking for a sim, you need to get Gran Tourismo 4. By far the most realistic game there is. But this game is ment to be arcade, there for its more of fantisy.

Give GTR a shot.  Free demo downloads are available (google "GTR" and "Simbin").  I think you'll find it much more realistic than Grand Tourismo 4.  That's not to say GT4 isn't good, it's just not the pinacle of the genre.

I have played the Grand Tourismo series for as long as I remember. IMHO, it has to be the most realistice Play Station sim on record. I particularly like the drafting effects. I was racing in my souped-up Dodge Viper against a few weak Beatles. The VWs were forming a column and were drafting. Because of that, I was falling behind [I was NOT in formation] and they were gaining speed. ;D

I agree, the GT series is remarkable for what it is.  It's quite accurate, certainly one of the most accurate available on console (Playstation, Xbox, anything).

But there are more accurate sims in the PC realm.  GTR is just one title.  Richard Burns Rally (originally for console, now on PC) is also more accurate than GT4.  Never played the console version so I can't comment.

Drafting effects in GT4 don't suprise me.  But just today I was working on setups in GTR for Spa.  I was playing with brake duct opening sizes because I was sick of ending up at the end of the Kimmel straight with brakes which were too cold and took a good 10 yards of braking to get hot enough to grab.  But I ended up finding that brake ducts small enough to keep the temps up were too small to keep the brakes cool enough on the rest of the lap.  When full of fuel I was overheating and fading going in to the bus stop.  Although they worked fine on the one lap qualifying setup (where I was trading off RPM limit and radiator duct size to find the "sweet spot" where I could do an out lap and one hot lap without overheating or having too much drag).  I've never been so deep in to any of the GT series that I was spending more time off track reviewing MOTEC data than I was racing.  I don't even think GT4 models brake or oil and water temps.

Please keep the discussion clean. I don't want to bring out my box of alcohol swabs to sterilize this place. ;D

Oh have fun beating the black list with that. Should have used the Golf for the first race.
