Thank gosh...
Everyone that I have met that has ever used Vista says it sucks and performs horribly...
Here is the #1 reason why it is getting so much negative feedback...
Computer manufacturers are putting the junkiest equipment in your system and attempting to put Vista in it...(as all people that know 1 cent about computers already know)
For example; My sister just got a laptop (used, about four months old loaded with Vista 32bit) and has the following specs...
AMD single core at 1.8GHz
1gb of slow DDR2 RAM
80Gb HD
integrated graphics...
Vista uses .98 GBs (33% of my 3Gbs currently installed) of RAM and I have 190Gbs free of my 320Gb HD (mind you this computer is 6 months old) and Vista was totally eating my integrated graphics until I got my 8800GT...I love Vista! So easy to use...just UAC is bad.
Well I guess what I've been trying to say (because I'm not very good at spitting words out) is that Vista is for high performance ONLY (unless you suck it up and admit to the ugly classic Windows)...go run your programs from 2004 on a computer from 2004 and everyone else can move on...
Though people will still complain, XP is there...get it and shush.
The Gexpheliology Theory of Me - The world will stop spinning and the sun will burn out the instant they discontinue XP.
:)
Edit: Glad to see that "Downgrade" option though...hopefully people will see that.

XP for me is still the best thing that microsoft ever produced

it hardly crashes, it's fairly a lightweight system (even ancient machines with 256 ram can run it) it's compatible with pretty much everything and it doesnt suck the blood out of your new top-notch rig like vista does

i will be not getting vista. ever. period.

vista is a failed attempt to make a beatiful OS that will turn your hi-end pc into a 486, so the end customer is obligated to spend the big bucks to run it like XP did with a quarter of the required hardware

Microsoft's philosophy when they created the CPU hogging features of Vista was that it didn't matter if the system was such a heavy burden on the computer, because the upcoming hardware would be able to handle it (this is a true story)

although it is true that a top-notch computer can run vista and still spare a few CPU cycles to run a game or something other the OS itself, the problem remains... when one buys a top-notch rig. one expects this new and shining computer to perform outstandingly, where as with Vista, one only gets a mediocre performance, making the whole point of having this top-grade computer useless, since you could get the same performance on a much cheaper pc running XP

so no, i will stick with XP for now, thanks

and i'm glad that more people are now sharing my line of thought, and the Vista hype is over

oh, and for those that really like that Vista look, there are Vista skins for WinXP available for download that'll make it look just like the real thing...  ;D ;D ;D
(that's the only way you'd ever see me using vista  ;D)

Cheers

If you have a fast, multi-core  computer, and lots of RAM... and know how go to through the services to set your computer up for the way you use it; Vista (64-bit) runs complex software (like MSFS) faster than XP.

The biggest thorn in Vista's side right now (especially 64-bit), is the hardware companies (drivers).

i have used vista before, on several different computers... and it just doesn't work for me...
the reason i dislike vista so bad, is not because i wouldn't be able to use it... as gaming enthusiasts, you and me know perfectly well how to setup an OS so it runs better, how to disable those annoying features that pop up, and what kind of hardware we're required to have in order to make to whole thing functional...

what aggravates me, is what i see is happening to the more casual users, which are unknowingly buying pcs that are struggling to run vista on a single core CPU and 512 RAM... these people (most people btw) don't share the same interest in computer stuff as we do, and are mostly fooled by the vista logo on the box, thinking 'hey, if it has this new windows, it's probably a great computer'... which it's not... and i've seen this happen... more than once...

that's what makes me so mad about vista... it is not a user-friendly system, although it claim to be... you NEED to be familiar with computers and hardware to be able to use it well, or else it's just too sluggish... and that's really the opposite of Microsoft's selling point for this OS, which claimed it would be easier to use and to learn...

short story: my grandfather, who is really not a computer expert, got a new laptop with vista... he had me revert it back to XP, since he couldn't use it, so slow it was... and i must point out that this laptop, was 3 times more powerful than his old pc than ran xp... now with xp installed, the laptop is 4 times faster than before and he's using it happily...

so it didn't matter that vista had a more intuitive interface and better looking graphics... it was so slow, that it wasn't usable

that's the kind of stuff that makes me dislike vista so bad

Cheers

The problem with vista is that it doesnt really offer a lot for the companies to use, and no manufacturer wants to jump on the bandwagon. microsoft anounced that there fasing vista out and are putting a new product on the market next year to stay ahead of the competion, if they still can.

Vista for Business was a bust. I've heard the next operating system could possible charge you monthly fees for what you want to use. But that is just a rumor.

Companies already do that anyway, they book away a certain amount of money monthly as part of the OS.

I remember adopting XP a few years back and recently I got my hands on a Vista laptop.

I have to agree that XP is the best OS microsoft ever put out, never crashes and it plays nice with my hardware. Is it perfect, not at all but it doesn't require the latest and greatest in hardware to run either.

Vista, well at least on this "new" laptop does not run well at all especially since it was designed to run vista. What makes me scratch my head is did Microsoft think Businesses would start buying into super high end PC's just to check email and do some word processing? Just imagine trying to run that resource pig lotus notes :o :o

Having crates of PC Games filling my bedrooms up, dating back over ten years, I get a bit worried about up dating my operating system...Win 5, '98. 98SE, XP, (Vista?), regarding compatibility... ::)...!

Vista would give me even more problems!

Even now, I often have to Boot up my second Hard Drive with its Win '98SE operating system, and re-install my old 3DFX Voodoo Graphics cards, to be able run many of my lovely "old" Games.. :o...!

Most/all of my favourite games date back many years ago, so I have to be very cautious when/if upgrading Operating Systems, Graphics Cards, etc... ;)...!

Paul....Doom and Gloom...and Duke Nukem 3D!... ;D....!
