Postby hasman » Tue Nov 23, 2004 5:25 pm

Gooday is there anyone out there who could direct me to sight or 2 where I could purchase cfs2? As it seems that no retailer in South Africa stocks this game nor does amazon seem to want too import it for me and believe it or not even our local microsoft branch seems to be at a loss. So if you know please do tell I would be most greatfull and if you know of a seller in the SA I would be so pleased Id litraly take off without the aid of a propeller. ???

Have you tried Ebay or half.com? There may be someone there willing to ship to your location.

Africa? I can't even find it in TN! ;D

I have tried at Ebay and have yet to win a copy yet, but it is hard to find. I have searched all around East TN and no one has it!

Also can't find Pacific Fighters.

Have you tried old bookshops and secondhand dealers, maybe you'll find something ???

CFS2 is extermely hard to find these day's, which beg's the question, since people are still trying to buy the game, why don't MS re-issue it?

Hey Fret.  Did you go around Knoxville looking in the malls? There has to be at least a few big malls around Knoxville with Electronics Boutique and Game Stop/Babbages stores. Or even Best Buy which has a lot of software.  Now that I remember, just last week I saw Pacific Fighters at Walmart.

It's the same old story. Nobody bothers about what the consumer actually wants these days. I've lost count of the number of times I've asked for something only to be told; "That's a coincidence, I had a couple of enquiries for the same thing only yesterday. We no longer stock that item as there's no demand for it." ::)
My standard reply is unprintable.

Ok, but surely if somebody asked for something yesterday, and you asked for it today, then surely that must be construed as a demand for said item.... Some companies ::)

It's like Janes WW2 Fighters and USAF, people are still looking for copies of those games, you'd think the developer's would catch a clue :P

Edit: Or at least update them so that they can run on XP properly!

I would say that they are investng all the time and money into the next "big thing" in hopes to cash in. Which in reality they produce software that runs only on the machines they test on, and end up selling a box of bugs too the consumer.
Which then require more money and time to develop a patch, fixes etc...
Guess some don't belive in the "ain't broke, don't fix" theory.

I don't bother with many new games just because of that fact, they are designing them for upcoming technology that few can afford to purchase. And I feel it is wrong to have to upgrade my computer everytime a game might interest me, so I always check the "bargin bin" at my local store and find some killer stuff there.

Not my problem, as a consumer I've already paid for the software. If it's full of bugs, it's up to you as the developer to fix it. At the end of the day, Word of Mouth travels far, especially on a medium like the internet. It would be to a company's detriment to ignore their customers, especially when the majority of them use the internet!

Case and point... If CFS4 was released tomorrow, would you be the first one in the line to purchase a copy?

I found my copy of CFS1 in the $9.99 rack at wal-mart, Im hoping that in a year or so, CFS2 will be reissued for the $9.99 rack as well. By the way, whats the deal with CFS3? I read somewhere that it was hard to make add-ons for, and that it was rather unpopular.

I've also seen copies of CFS1 floating around, but nothing for CFS2!

The problem with CFS 3 is that it is constructed differently when compared to FS 2004/ FS 2002 and CFS 2. Any aircraft and mods that you make for CFS 3 can't be used in FS 2004/ FS 2002 and CFS 2. This gives the sim a fairly closed scope whereas anything created for FS 2004 can be re-worked (In most cases without the Source file) for use in FS 2002 and CFS 2. Aircraft created for CFS 2 can also be used in FS 2004 and FS 2002, but you might have to do a little tweaking here and there. Another negative point in CFS 3 is that the whole world is not modeled, whereas in FS 2004/ FS 2002 and CFS 2 the whole world is present. This is one of the reason why CFS 2 has lasted as long as it has, because third-party developers have been able to create aircraft, campaigns and etc for the different theatres of operations. The only problem is that CFS 2 doesn't support modern types of weapons (Neither does CFS 3), so your limited to what you can accurately create for the sim. This means that you can create campaigns for any aerial wars that took place prior to the introduction of guided weapons. CFS 3 is also a resource intensive sim whereas with CFS 2 you can get by on a relatively older setup (I used to run CFS 2 on a P III 733 with 128 Mb SD-Ram and a 32 Bit Gfx card). Some people have also expressed dissapointment because there are no 2D cockpits in CFS 3, but if your one who likes to fly in the VC then this shouldn't be a problem.

Regards,
Stratobat

Edit: CFS 3 also has fishbowl views which aren't to hot :P
