Try turning on your PS3 while your controller is plugged into the console via USB. Then press and hold the PS button and see if anything happens. If that doesn't work, there may be something wrong with the controller, in which case you might want to contact Sony directly. It's a bit of a long shot, but you can also try a different USB cable.
