Windows 7 Question...

Postby F35LightningII » Thu Jun 16, 2011 2:11 am

HI

I am aware that Windows 7 professional and Ultimate have Windows XP mode. I've also heard that you can launch an application in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Are the 2 the same thing. In other words, if I have Windows 7 Home Premium (doesn't have XP mode), can I run applications in compatibility mode for XP?

I'm not overly sure on this as I've not used any of the Home editions but you could setup a virtual PC with XP installed on it and run programs that way.

They are not the same thing. XP mode is a way to run Windows XP in Windows 7, whereas compatibility mode does something else to make XP programs work.

Pretty much all my applications run in Windows 7, even ones that were designed for XP. If they don't then right click on the application, go properties and then find a prompt that says something about compatibility mode. I don't know much about the XP mode, I wouldn't bother even thinking about it since I doubt you'll need it.

have Windows 7 Home Premium (doesn't have XP mode), can I run applications in compatibility mode for XP?

Yes.
