Microsoft Security Essentials...

After a couple of weeks of use,
I just wanted to give it a thumbs up,
and a nod of recommendation if you've debating on getting it.

I had previously been using AVG9, Spybot, and Malwarebytes in unison,
and have since replaced them all with this one program.

I did weekly scans with those 3 programs,
and thought I was well covered and protected.
On MSSE's first scan,
it found 4 things never detected by my previous trio.

It's much less of a hog on system resources as well.
I went from half a dozen process running,
down to just 2 for my AV.

I imagine that in the near future,
someone will make a better mouse,
and then mouse trap,
but for now, I'm happy.

Been using it for many months now.... and I'm also very happy with it. It's simple, silent and just WORKS! 8-)

Thanks for the heads up and the recommendation, Shane.

I read this thread when it came out, but today I thought would be a good time to put it on my Mom's computer. It still had McAfee on it and I'm pretty sure the updates ended long ago when I switched over to NOD32 for my PC.

Glad I got rid of it too as it dropped 9 applications running in the background.

Well, it didn't take very long to find a trojan that walked right by MSE, and even took over it's process.  >:(

Back to AVG I suppose.  ::)

I would love to put a bullet between the eyes of the makers of this kind of crap.

I had them all. Anti virus software that is. Currently using Vipre which I have to pay for. Haven't had a problem in the 9 months I've had it.. I've mentioned it here before.

But why would you think security software from the same company that made your os, would be able to catch the malicious software that exploits the security vulnerabilities in that os? If they can't prevent these threats with a software security update, why would a seperate program do any better?

Good point.
Now that I think about it, the majority of MS updates involve security updates.

Still, getting rid of McAfee felt great.

I shall fear infections no more.

I ran into a solution on the web, that fixed the problem quickly,
as well as another I didn't even know I had.

All clean and shiny again! 

And the infection turned out to be my fault, I had turned the AV off to fly FS9, and had forgot to turn it back on. 

Lesson learned.

AVG is actually not that great. I believe either Avira/Avast is one of the best ones at the moment. MSE is also very good though.

Thanks Shane for the heads-up on combofix. I installed it on my son's viciously infected machine and it cleared-up everything that was wrong. When done it even installed 38 updates from MS,which I wasn't able to do because of the infection(s). I tried quite the variety of programs with no luck,until now. I was even able to install Norton Security Suite,which I wasn't able to before I ran combofix.

I just chug along with NOD-32, MalwareBytes and Glary Utilities. Never a problem. If all of you are getting the protection you want, that is fine. And I, too, would like to visit some violence upon the subhuman cretins who put these viruses and malwares out there. But this is a kid-friendly place. Can't go into details...
