Screenshot program

Postby Rich H » Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:43 pm

I use Paint.net for all my photo alterations, but what program do you recommend for taking screenshots; out of FSX.
Print screen doesn't always work, and though I've found HyperSnap and FRAPS which seem to work; they cost money  :-/
I could always buy FRAPS though, might be a nice little investment.

Why not use the FSX onboard screengrab feature? Press the V key to take the shots. They will be saved in BMP format to your "My Pictures\Flight Simulator X Files" folder.

Sorry, I didn't really make it that clear; its for games other than FS.

Sorry. I misunderstood your question. I suppose it would depend on the game but I would think that most multiple screengrab applications should do what you want. There's lots of free ones to choose from. Some graphics editors (IrfanView for example) can be set up to capture screenshots. MultiGrab has always done everything I wanted.

I use FSScreen. Handy simple tool with practically no function buttons.

FRAPS.

Unless I am mistaken, the print screenshot function works properly in the unregistered version.

I just press "Print Screen" then go into Photoshop, Paint, etc. But FRAPS is the best for moving shots. Xfire has this built into their IM'er also.

Alt+Print Screen will capture just the active window. So if you're running in a window and have other windows open, the screen shot will only grab the active window. Then you can use paste to transfer the clip board image into a paint program.
