Six Days in Fallujah

Postby Groundbound1 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:49 pm

Heard about this game on the news tonight. Seems to be stirring up some controversy.

Watch the story and decide.

Konami was the publisher that dropped the project.

I would play it, but at the same time think of respect and thank the people for giving their lives for their country.

Hard to think of it as a "game" being so tightly based on real events though. I hear the word game, and I think fun and excitement. I wonder if they might have a little less trouble if they were to call it something else, maybe. Like a war simulator?

I don't know. I'd "play" it though.

I know I read an article somewhere where they referred to it as a "Interactive Documentary".

The main problem with this being people who can't view a video game as being anything other than a game. Video games, or interactive documentaries, would be a great learning medium if people could get over their old views of them. It'd really allow the person "playing" it to actually get the feeling of being there, seeing and hearing what really happened. Which raises the question, why is it acceptable for this to the basis of a movie and not an "interactive documentary"?

I would play it. There must be some type of recognition for the actual troops fighting the real fight though.

I can occasionally load up one of my old Computer Shoot-em-ups...

...but they only involve getting rid of Monsters, Replicants, invading Aliens, Slimy Creatures, and the like... :)...!

...never anything that looks like killing and maiming my fellow Human Beings, in a Computer Game...

...(...unless I'm REALLY annoyed with someone in particular*...;)...)...!

I'm a bit put off with Computer Military Games which look all too Realistic!

Why such a backlash against this and not over any of the Medal of Honour or COD series. It quotes that about 50 American troops were killed against 25 million military deaths in World War 2. Maybe 50 is a bit more personal against 25 million, which is to a lot of people just a big number??

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. The developer said they had over 30 marines as consultants, no real people are used as characters, you can't play as an insurgent, and you have to be morally correct, or game over. If anything, it's more respectful than any other shooting game, like COD:MW.
