Windows Live Messenger... Contacts have doubled.

Postby machineman9 » Wed Aug 27, 2008 7:33 pm

I just signed onto WLM then, and it seems my contact list has doubled in size. For every group of contacts, I have another one now.

Here is a picture of what it is like...

If I click the top most 'Air Training Corps' (or the top most of the pair of same contacts) then it firstly expands the bottom set, then when you click again expands the top list. When you click the top list to close, it closes the second list in the pair and then the first.

It is a bit strange how, for example in my mates group, it has some contacts online in one group, but also a few different people online in the other.

After a bit of rearranging, I now have 2 lots of each contact. There will be an "Emily" then the same Emily again straight under, or whatever. Sometimes it is an older version of their name, other times it is updated and new.

Does anyone have any idea how this could have been caused? I can delete groups, but sign out and sign in just to find they are back again.

Cheers

Chavs mostly.

If you add me to a multi-conversation, you mostly end up in there, blocked.

Same goes for if your name is a rainbow of unintelligable characters and you can't make a proper sentence with atleast vaguely good English

Yep. I can't stand that type of thing, so it is my MSN trashcan I suppose you could say.

A further point is if I use the search bar to search my contacts... when both of them show up, if I block the one which (where one is online and their same email is offline) is offline, then it blocks the online version first.

Well, nothing I can think of... but then again if I knew I had done something, then that is probably the cause of the issue.

The only thing I was doing at the time was repairing my Vista installation and copying all the backed up files back over. I don't think I could have done anything to WLM from that.
