Why is vista smoother

Postby sonic » Sun Dec 09, 2007 4:40 pm

I just installed xp back becuase a compatabily problem with something else, I installed fs9 but for some reason fs9 plays much smoother on vista than it does xp why is that, considering most people say vista is awful for gaming.

It's usually the computer. My computer loves Vista and runs great with games. Some computers dread Vista and refuse to work with it and that is when you move back to XP. It just depends on the computer.

What tweaks did you do to your vista or did you just leave it alone.

My comps only a month old or less and I have not made any significant modifications to vista if not any at all.

Only tweak I did to vista was turn off the sidebar, aero and a few other display features. Also some services that NickN posted i shut off. I also shut off SuperFetch, stilldebating if it gave me a performance increase or not but it seems to be working. As for Vista and XP, well vista is smoother, and more stable for me. If a program in XP quit responding I was lucky to get it to come online again. Vista I don't have that problem as much. Also when overclocking trying to go for a suicide CPU-Z validation or something i can boot to Vista at a higher clock then XP.

Yes vista has it's querks but as long as you have the hardware to back the OS you are fine. SP1 will be rolling out very soon wich should incorporate lots of good fixes. IMO you would be stupid to BUY XP now. If you like XP and you already have it then go for it but don't buy it. Vista will surpass XP in performance and stability in a pretty short time.

Alright lets clear some things up.

1st: Turning User Account Control off fixes 99.98% of gaming problems.
2nd: Older hardware hates vista, newer hardware is very happy. Also making sure that you have all the latest drivers installed makes your world very happy.
3rd. SP1 is expected to launch Jan 28 2008. RC1 is out, but its not recommended if you are using Vista as your primary OS.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Vista isn't broken or "t3h sUck" its usually the user.

Cheers
