Most of us use a program called FRAPS.

http://www.fraps.com

As you can see from that site you have to pay to register the software to get the full benefits.

Hey guys, you record your flights ??? Even 2 or 3 hours flights ? I'm not really good in mathematics (I am but it doesn't matter) but a three hours flight video must be at least 2GB big ! :o
Concerning Fraps, I didn't know it wasn't free. You'll surely find other websites where you can dowload it for free. If you don't, use a crack...  8)

I don't believe that there is a crack at all for Fraps.

Secondly, Fraps is free, but with limited options.

there's also a program caled planetgamecam. Only heard of it, never used. The regular versian is free with unlimited time. There is a pro versian, but I'm not sure what features are added, but you pay for it.

What do you call "limited options" ?

Limited options:

Strict time limit - about 30 seconds I believe.
Limited options for screenshot formats.

That's all I can remember.

As you use FRAPS, it takes up resources in order to do just the recording. Therefore, you would see slower performance in FS when Fraps is recording.

However, someone around here said that if you hook up a camcorder to the computer in a certain fashion, you can record the flight in FS without using system resources.

You can do that, but the resolution and quality is much lower. Standard 4:3 letter box is 720 by 480.

Here's what I do when I want to record video. I use a DVI DVR that can handle up to 1080p resolutions which means all my movies are captured in 1280 by 1024. I just hook the DVI to the DVI jack on my computer. Data is streamed and recored uncompressed, allowing for maxing quality.
