Just picked up two Virus's from "somewhere?".
W32.Wallz

It's so annoying when Norton pops up to remind you that you have just got a Virus....
....tells you what it is, and where it is....
....but firmly refuses to Quarantine it and Delete it....!
Why...?
...because it is in your System Directory and Uncle Bill doesn't want anyone, including Norton, to mess around altering "things" in his System Directory while Windows is running...!!
So...
It's start Windows in "Safe Mode" again....(fervently keep tapping F8 during boot-up)...go into Safe Mode, get Norton to scan of the C drive, find the Virus, quarantine it....
...and then manually delete it using the Norton "delete" option.
...Sorted...!

Note that using this method, (Safe Mode), does not require the Windows operating system to be running...!

That's the problem I always found with Norton ......... it's about a week behind AVG and even then it doesn't always update.

Hello Lads...!

The sequence of events using 56K Dial-up Evenings and Weekends...

I had been running FS 2004 during most of the day with Norton, Zone Alarm, The Cleaner, background programs etc, de-activated to slightly speed up the game.
When it came time to connect to the 'Net via dial-up at 6 PM I forgot to re-activate the Virus protection programs, (I didn't re-start the computer which would have automatically re-activated the programs).
Within a few seconds of connecting to Simviation, using the Firefox browser, a Norton window immediately popped up warning me that I had recieved a W32. Wallz Virus...!
I was amazed how quickly this virus had entered throught the hole in my protection...almost as thought it was waiting for me to connect to the 'Net...!

Perhaps this illustrates how vital it is to have anti-virus protection actually running on the computer while connected to the Internet!

Interestingly, I notice that the possibility of this occurring is much more likely with Win XP than it was with my old Win '98 operating system...!

...still....using the method described above, of running the anti-virus program in "Safe Mode" instantly got rid of it...!

P.S. as an add-on....I am still getting 40 "Returned Mail" reports and 260 Spam E-Mails each day.....time to do some more searching...?

Don't rag on nortan. Nortan is one of the best anti-viruses out there. Its been vertified to get 100% of viruses by several independant security firms. Here's one:

You'll have to registor to view the list, but nortan anti-virus is on there 10 times.

AVG, on the other hand, I must highly recommend you avoid. I haven't seen a anti-virus worse than it. It has no defense against spyware, its very buggy slows down computers faster than viruses themseleves and has a horrbile user interface.
