E-Mail Problems / Firefox / SBC Yahoo

Postby Scorpiоn » Thu Jul 14, 2005 4:04 am

I good deal of people I maintain contact with (lets leave it at that) use some sort of coding that shows up as gibberish at my end.  I've never worried about it, as the e-mail messages were largely in English, and all messages could be effectively replied to.  However, tonight, all this gibberish has just really bugged the living daylights out of me, and I'm out to get these characters to display as they should.  I've tried tinkering with Firefox settings, but nothings happened.  The problem, while not as bad, also happens in Internet Explorer. :p

For example, in one e-mail, I recieved this

Your browser and OS don't have support for East Asian Languages.

To install East Asian Language support for windows and IE (they are same thing in tersm of installing), follow the steps:
note: you will need a XP install cd. This also assumes you have XP, though win200 shouldn't be too different.

1)goto control panel.
2) If CP is organized by category, click 'Date Time Language and Reginal Options'. IF CP view is classic, skip this step.
3) click 'Reginal and Language Options'
4) A window will appear, click the languages tab at the top of the window. Check the 2 checkboxes near the middle of the window. The two that need to be checked are 'Install files for complex script...' and 'Install files for East Asian Languages'.

That should fix it. Hope that helps. This only works for IE/windows, it may fix firefox as well, but i'd download a langauge pack for firefox in korean if it doesn't.

I already have East Asian fonts installed. ;)

I will try the language pack though.
