Why I Wanted the SBC Browser

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Feb 23, 2005 9:42 pm

Well, now I'm paying the price for using IE.  Despite having Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Ad Aware, Spyboy and Yahoo Anti-Spy, with both Microsoft and Spybot having monitoring systems on, Spyware is now regurlarly getting on my system.  What get's on my nerves the most, is for some reason I can't open more than one browser window anymore, but pop ups can certaintly open their own.  Sometimes though, I will be browsing, and a pop-up will replace my window with no option of going back in history!

hmm, sounds like something has gotten into your system, I'm sure that there is mroe than likely a way to fix it, but I sure don't have a clue, sorry... :-( I've been running it happilly with all of the windows updates and maccafee anti-virus, along with sygate free firewall...

only once in awhile when I'm trying to d/l more than 5 files, and open more than one browser do I get errors/problems...

not sure what's happening there...:-(

Give Firefox a try. You can run Firefox and IE6 and use whichever you want as a default browser.

Well, I went ahead and got Firefox, and it's great!  AT first I was bit put off by how ugly the icons were, but I discovered themes!  So a good looking browser with, more impotantly, good functionality. :)

But IE still pops up out of the blue with the infernal pop-ups, so I adjusted IEs settings to the absolute maximum.  The problem here, is this is just spackling over the pavement when there's a cavernous hole underneath.

I think there's an "agent" on my computer that calls upon pop-ups, and that all the anti-virus and anti spyware are missing it.

Download Stinger, a stand alone virus scanner, it will find stuff that other programs won't.
Make certain before you run  it you turn off system restore, most never think of it  but if a virus or spyware is on your system it can and will stay in your system restore not being scanned by your virus/spyware scanners.

Another program you may want to get is HiJackThis, it will list a bunch of stuff so before removing anything be sure you know and understand what it is!!

Once you get FireFox set up to your liking you will never use any other browser ;)
