SBC Yahoo DSL / XP Service Pack 2

Postby Scorpiоn » Tue Feb 15, 2005 9:15 pm

I think I now konw what has been causing all my SP2 woes: SBC Yahoo's software/browser.  I know a few people on here run both of these with success, and do y'all have any pointers on how y'all did it?  Whenever I try, XP with SP2 may run perfectly, but as soons as I install SBC's browser, whenever I re-boot my machine, whenever the XP loading bar should come up, I get a blue screen flash for about 5/100ths of a seconds, and the computer restarts.  Ideas?

I have a friend with that problem. Here's how he fixed it.

Get a router and it will do the PPPoE login for you. Then you never have to touch SBC Yahoo's dumb bug-ridden software.

Plus, you get a hardware firewall and future networking capabilties.

Well, I already have a hub, so I don't feel like blowing money on a dang "upgrade", as it is.  I'd rather go the software route. :)

hmmm, did you do a full format and reinstall yet? what I did lsat time was to format, install windows, install updates via windows update...

You don't need the SBC software to get the windows updates...install updates in order prescribed on site, and restart everytime it says to...

once windows is up to date isntall the sbc software...

after software install if everything is running ok, go do a search through the SBC help for the yahoo anti spy-ware removal tool.  This program has found things on PC's I've worked on that other programs (Spybots, etc) could not remove... ;-)

In all actuality you shouldn't need to install the sbc software as the computer is technically connected to the internet all of the time....to access your sbc mail you could set up a POP mail account in outlook/outlook express, or check it via the following site... www.sbc.yahoo.com

I myself have no problem with the sbc browser and stuff that it installed, but did notice that a few toolbars in IE all of a sudden popped up, so went to add remove and removed them successfully...

I've even put it on several different pc's at the house in various stages of SP2 migration without any trouble.... ???

Also, that reminds me, is your router set to automatically connect PPPoE server?

ie, this might be a problem where you router is telling the sbc server that your computer will dtermine the dynamic ip address? Not quite sure...
