Who the heck plays Doom III, if there are great running games out there like HL

The Doom III engine may appear brilliant, but it's nothing more than a technological blind alley, since it uses complicated ways to render shadows and lightning. Plus, it's only suitable for smaller areas, like inside buildings or similar.
The source engine may not have great features like highly dynamic shadows, but the overall image is way better. I was more stunned by the graphics of HL

Yes,graphics can be very important, but if the rest of the game sucks, you can kick the whole atmosphere into the trash bin.
