Doom 3: Cheats and tips...!

Postby Fozzer » Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:29 pm

Hi All...!

One of my Grandsons tells me that I have to stop all my flying around for a while, go out and purchase Doom 3 and get involved in shooting some really scary monsters, etc... :o....for a change.... ;D.....!

So tomorrow I'm going to pop into my friendly Game store, thrust
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Or ask your chap in the game shop to go to the shop's graveyard and get you System Shock 2.
And "shock" is really true when you're walking through the decks of a space ship.
Just you.
Your poor weapon.
And something else...
...somewhere...
...behind that corner....
....something....
....mechanic?
Biological?
What the hell happened?
How does it feel to be the only human left?
All alone.
Against the ship's computer.
72 years after "Citadel".

(Why the computer? And why "citadel"? Well, you're gonna find out!)

Or try the Deux Ex series! Dark and futuristical games.
Free decissions, mutiple exdings and great graphics!

But it's and intelligent and yet scary alternative.
I prefer SS much more, because it ain't as linear as Doom 3.

Scania, (Paul).... ;D...!

I can't believe the underhand lengths you will go to encourage me to un-install my beloved Windows '98SE and install that awfull "blue" Windows XP system... ::)... ;D...!
Even to the extent of faking a Microsoft window with Paintshop Pro to frighten me into carrying out the evil deed...>>>

Image

I will have further discussions with my Grandson, (he who knows all about such things... ;)...)...!
...and decide wether to purchase Doom 3 with the dreaded "blue" Windows XP, or continue playing all my lovely DOS games with my Windows '98SE... 8)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

Its Scanias campaign to banish '98  ;D

Sorry Paul, no edit honstly! That's what I get if I try to run Doom3 on my '98 partition.

Just used paintshop for the screenie - really! - I would'nt try to hoodwink you would I ?  ;)  :-X  :D

Heres a fix, it works on my '98 setup although it plays VERY slowly......

First and foremost DO NOT USE SETUP.EXE TO INSTALL THE GAME!

1. Manually create a folder where you would like Doom III to go. I.E. C:\idsoft\doomIII\data\base (You absolutely need to name a folder data and inside that folder another folder called base.)

2. Copy all pk4 files from each CD to the data\base folder

3. Copy the Doom III executable to the folder named data.

4. Make a backup of the Doom III executable and store it in another location on your harddrive. (We are about to edit the Doom III executable doom3.exe)

5. Download this simple easy to use hex editor named very simply,... Hex Editor
http://www.expertcomsoft.com/

6. Install Hex Editor and open the DoomIII exe (doom3.exe) within Hex Editor

7. Click edit on the toolbar to open the edit menu options. Within the menu that appears click Find.

8. In the find box type "GlobalMemoryStatusEx" (without the quotation marks)
Now press ENTER.

9. You will now see highlighted GlobalMemoryStatusEx. The last 2 numbers of the GlobalMemoryStatusEx section are 45 and 78. Change both numbers to 00. In other words change 45 to 00 AND 78 to 00. You may possibly need to make doom3.exe a writeable file before you do the above. When you copied doom3.exe from the CD it was read only. To make the file writeable right click on the file then go to properties and click the checkbox for read only to remove the check mark.

10. save the new Doom3.exe and play to your hearts content.

I hope this works for you.

You can actually play some very old DOS games on XP. I'm playing the unique and funny "Nuclear War" quite regularly without problems.

Hi Bjorn...!

The word "some" doesn't come into the equasion... ::)...!
Most all of my lovely games are DOS types.... ;D...!

I've got packing cases of "old" games which all run famously in Windows '98, and I love them all.... ;D...!
..in fact, apart from Doom 3, (which won't run on '98 ), I can't think of any recent games I would go out and buy... ;)...!
So, really, Windows XP is not a real necessity for me at the mo'.... ;D...!
...and it's always an excuse to wind-up Scania...Tee-Hee... ;D...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Cheers Bjorn... 8)...!

Paul...how I love good-old Quake, (Tenebrae), on Win '98.... ;D... ;D... ;D...!

P.S. Note: I do have the Win XP disk, and the service packs...just need a total 'puter crash to force me into installing them... ;)
..in the meantime... ;D.... ;D... ;D...!

Discover the delights of a dual boot system!as long as '98 stays on your C: drive, and you use XP on a partition formatted to NTFS (which '98 can't see and won't conflict with) you'll have the best of both worlds Paul.

Pop your XP disk into your drive, it should ask you if you want to upgrade or install a separate OS, do the latter, as long as you have a spare empty hard drive in your pc or ,enoug empty partitioned space on your existing drive, XP will install where you tell it to, and it will automatically do the required to give you a simple choice of OS's on boot up.

Its really that simple. ;) *

And theres many an article out there in the web that'll help you through it step by step.

Go on mate, have a little faith in me.  ;)  :-*

*Famous last words , granted its still Windows!  ::) ;D ;)
