For me IL2 but make sure you get Forgotten Battles as it is much better than the original. Exceptional realism and not that easy.

I would say CFS3. Once you get it working fairly well I think it beats anything going. What I find with IL2 is that it is unrealistically realistic. You can barely turn with out ending up in a flat spin. Whats more I don't really like russian aircraft. With CFS3 you get spitfires!!!! ;D

There is a topic a few down from this one about the pros and cons of IL2. Where I have versed my opinions a bit more. ;)

I have two questions for you Woodlouse.

1. Are you making sure that you are flying over 350km/h?

2. Are you sure you're not jerking the stick around?

For as long as you are about 330-350km/h, you should have little problem managing. Any slower and you'll see some wobbling from your fighter.

Never throw your stick around the cockpit like a toy. Remember, these are WW2 prop planes, not modern-day superflankers or F-22 Raptors.

Try the I-16 or the I-153 for manuverability. They may not have a lot of speed, but they can help you get behind your enemy.

My most favorite fighter is the P.11. It may be slow as h377 [cruising at 170km/h], but it's VERY stable because of its high-wing design. Not only that, the P.11 packs a ton of ammo. It takes a long while for you to run out ammo in this plane. ;)

I shot down a Ki-84 and a B-235 with this plane. None of them had the chance to survive my onslaught.

This plane can dodge more bullets than Neo Anderson. Seriously, I'm not kidding.

You can try the P-39 Cobra. It's fast, quite on the inside, and carries a big-@55 bomb for bombing mission. It can reach speeds of up to 770km/h in a full dive.

But becareful. Because the engine is located at the aircraft's center of gravity [CoG], it takes finesse to get this plane out of a flat spin.

It doesn't carry that much ammo either. But it's guns do pack a punch.

The most difficult prop plane to fly is the FW-109 A9.

It packs plenty of powerful punches. Because it's heavy, it's good on a dive. This plane was mainly used for ground attack mission in the war. But was also used for dogfights.

However, it does lose energy as you quickly pull up or make a sisccor fight with you enemy. Remember, it's heavy.

The fact is Kahatu is I can fling my Tempest all over the sky on maximum realism in CFS3, shoot down five Me262's and land safely. When putting in evasive manuvers you need to be able to jerk the stick around and if you can't do that with out ending up in a spin then whats the point?

In IL2 I am disgusted at the armament on the Russian fighters. Apart from the IL2 its self your lucky to get two machine guns and a cannon. The german aircraft are covered in guns. This means that in a fight with a Yak9 against a Fw190 there is no contest. The Yak9 has a pea shooter and a slow firing cannon. While the Fw190 has four 20mm cannon and two 7.92 machine guns. Plus additional gunpods if you wish. Now tell me in a fight which one would you rather be in? :P

I find out of all the planes the fighter I find myself in most is the P39N. Its the only russian fighter with a ton of guns.

So i'll stick to my european aircraft thanks. Cause I can fling em around and do anything I like. At least then I am assured a decent amount of firepower. :P

Whats more, I have flowen you P11 and didn't like it simply because the wings obstuct nearly all your view. Whats more the guns on it are pathetic. It took nearly a ten second burst to take down a little recon plane. :o

THE YAK-9U!!!!!

That's right. I've flown the FW-190's and to be honest, they suck in manuverability. Just now, I have found out that they don't have much speed in a dive unless you have a full load bombs and full tank of fuel.

I use to shoot down a FW190 very easily with my trusted YAK-9U. Just fly high, swoop down, and punch hard. I can turn faster in a YAK than you can in a FW.

Besides, I like Russian WW2 aircraft. I think they look cool.

Whats more, I have flowen you P11 and didn't like it simply because the wings obstuct nearly all your view. Whats more the guns on it are pathetic. It took nearly a ten second burst to take down a little recon plane.

First. I don't care about the obstructed view because I can just simply hear the enemy's engine to pin-point his location.

Second. They may be weak, but the guns are dangerous if you know where to hit. Just simply aim for either the Ailerons or the Elevators and you're done.

Third. Stop insulting my P.11 ;D j/k

It doesn't matter how many guns you have. It's how you fly your plane that counts.

If you hate the plane, then the plane hates you. PERIOD.

I do think that guns do matter. No matter how well you fly you are never going to shoot down a plane when you have no weapons. Thats why I like my four 20mm cannon.

I find that even a wounded Fw190 can outrun the fastest of Russian warbirds. So intercepting is just a waste of time.

It looks like we need to settle this score in multiplayer mode.

You and me....one on one.....your FW and my YAK.

Do you accept the challenge? Or are you afraid that you might get shot down and proven wrong? ;)

I am known as KatahuAkata in the IL-2 online sessions. My favorite server is in the Dogfights lobby and is called War Clouds #1 or War Clouds #2.

I would but as you might have noticed, we play different sims. ;D I still dislike flying the Fw190. Compared to British warbirds its a piece of scrap. An interesting fight that would never take place is you in your Yak against me in my Tempest.

Anyhow. I turn down your offer for a scrap for the following reasons. I only have IL2 and not FB. I rarely go online on any game. The only times I ever did were for the SimV dogfights. And those are long since gone. I uninstalled the Ubisoft multiplayer stuff from my computer in a purge of unwanted programs and files. And lastly, I don't like IL2 enough to change any of the above reasons.

I think we should agree to disagree on this subject. (The IL2/CFS3 matter.) We seem to have got into an alarming number of discussions recently and quite frankly i'm bored with them. Whats more, nothing will get me to change my opinion. ;)

:) :) :)

IL-2 looks pretty, runs well on most rigs (something CFS3 won't) and a flight model that either makes me think all the simulators I own are wrong, or possibly it just don't fly "right"

I'm no real pilot, far from it! But, I think I've been simming long enough to recognise a nice "feel" to a simulator.... This "feel", in IL-2 or Forgotten Battles was there, with their unquestionably good graphics engine, authentic texturing etc then Hey! we'd all be raving about it...... :-/

But give me stuttering combat with CFS3 to IL-2's flight model any day!!!
CFS3 and I disagree on many issues, ::) but, its still installed on my machine, something IL-2 or F/B isn't.

I'm an absolute Combat Flight addict, make no mistake, if IL-2 or for my money, Forgotten battles were really any good, I'd have thought I'd love them both.

I don't.  ;)

Paul.
