Norton Utilities 2002

Postby Smoke2much » Tue Jan 06, 2004 12:50 pm

I was given Norton Utilities 2002 by my sister-in-law for Christmas.  I installed it last night and ran the optimization program overnight.

Today I have had two lock-ups and an occasional crash to desktop whilst using normally stable programs.  I am not saying that it was definately this program but virus scans indicate no problems.

I would therefore not recommend installation of this software to other members as until today I have had a six month period of amazing stability.

I have been forced to do a system restore etc.

Hi Will

Opinions vary but I've been using Norton Utilities for years with no problems. In fact I swear by it. I soon realised that Disk Doctor causes problems when monitoring the system & disabled it. Otherwise it's fine.

This might depend on your system. I'm on WinMe & I'm not sure when XP was first released. NU 2002 sounds a little old now. I would have thought the latest version would be named NU 2003 or even 2004. It might be worth checking out.

Fair comment, I'm running XP home which is where the issue probably came in....  I'm glad someone gets some use from it.

I just did a quick search & I think 2002 is the current version. I did find out it's compatible with WinXP.

I disable all the auto checking features & run the different utilities only when I need them. I always found that works best. These auto features run constantly in the background & actually slow down your system. Of course, I have no idea how it would work on XP or if it's really necessary. ::)
