Xp advice

Postby hiflyphil » Wed Jul 23, 2003 3:57 am

Hello me again  ;D

I've currently got FS2002 under Win98, with a dual Piii 400 Mbytes(except Win98 can't utilise the other Piii). It runs pretty well but starts to lag a bit when I'm on the ground with buildings all around.

I'm presently putting together another puter with an Amd2000xp and 256DDR400Mhz under the hood :P once I pulled one of the hard drives from the main puter I'll stick Xp on it and fire up FS2002.

Before I get to the finish line, does anyone know of any problems I may hit with Xp?

Cheers

Hi Phil I assume you'll be using XP Pro, in which case there are no real problems. Download DirectX 9.0, and DON'T under any circumstances download the SP1 pack, it really doesn't do your FS any favours. I had to format my HD and re-install everything after trying to use it, my computer just kept going v.wonky and crashing!

Sounds like Ozzy has pretty much addressed all your concerns, but I just wanted to say that I've got XP and I've got no problems with FS2K2 Pro....

Good luck!
Great edit, Bob.

Get java here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
(Go down to Download J2SE v 1.4.1_03.I'm using the Windows (U.S. English only) download.)

(Who needs MS's useless SP1/SP1A.lol

I thought they fixed all of the issues with SP1. =\ Are you sure you didn't install SP1 and not SP1a?

I've been using SP1a and playing FS with no noticable difficulties. =\

I suggest keeping your Dual PIII system and installing XP on that as well. :D You'll get a little boost with SMP support in XP Pro. :) You could use it as a FS server, or some such. :)
