a few minutes "spare" so thought I'd upload a few progress shots. These are of the rudder assembly taking shape.

the sliding portions or runners are from several sets of drawer slides that I managed to get hold of when they were throwing out some old desks at work

these are just the first try at working out how to make the pedals - these may or may not be what I go with. I did find out about getting some real baron pedals from a place in the states but USD$100 per pedal! or $400 for two sets and then an exchange rate of 2:1 = $800 + POSTAGE!!!!!

Ingenious. I was mystified by the rudder pedal mechanism at first... until I realized it's a dual-control setup.  ::)   :D

Way to scrounge, BTW... I pretty much have all the bits & pieces I need to finish my 'pit, but I still can't resist peeking when I pass a dumpster.   ;D

Nice idea Towerguy, but sorry to say that as it stands it won't work. Using a fixed bar, all the dimensions highlighted in this image need to be the same for the centre wheel to turn (imagine the coupled wheels on a Steam Loco).

However if you replace the two bars with a cable (change the wooden wheel to a pulley), put a couple of turns of the cable around the pulley and a tensioning spring at the end, it should work

thanks Adrian I'll give it some thought but the fact is that whether or not it should or shouldn't work - it actually does!

maybe because its not a single bar - 2 individual bars meet at the middle??? but whatever - when I push in the rudder on one side the others all move in unison and the pot in the middle turns just nicely. If I do run into trouble I'll certainly change it and probably go with your idea. It seems like a good one.
cheers
Craig

I think the issue mentioned is relating to the "non-linear" relationship between the movenement of the end pivot points and the AMOUNT the center pot will turn.

You should be able to "tune that out" with the calibration of the range of resistance vaules on the sim's joystick controls.

best,
