new career prospects- new idea

Postby machineman9 » Sun Nov 11, 2007 4:46 pm

With a career in the RAF getting ever so closer, I've been thinking about what Ill do when I actually have money in my pocket (being 14, its a little bit tricky to get a job, and tricky to get money too)

Anyway, I am thinking ahead, and I am planning on building a eurofighter typhoon sim pit. It's likely that I will be learning to and operating this aircraft, so I think it would be cool to actually have a private jet in my residence.

So yeh, currently Ive thought of how it may operate and look, and as the eurofighter is relatively new and expensive its unlikely i'll be able to buy a cockpit of one (so I will have to build it myself, which im fine with as i like metal work)

After that i am thinking of putting 3 TFT monitors on the front side(front, left and right window sections), 3 on the back in the same arrangement and also 2 on the sides so i can look left and right with relative ease. Depending on how expensive this gets, maybe another one on the top or something so i can look up at the floor when inverted

So yes, it will be enclosed, and with 8 monitors (nvidia 9/10 series anyone?). I also think it will be cool to have it as a motion simulator too, so I guess I can rig all that up, and no doubt the motion bit will be stock, or custom designed

Currently I am guessing the computer hardware will cost

machineman,

Personally, I am guessing that for that level of complexity and such a sophisticated aircraft you are likely WAY low on the price estimate.

well john, i thought the price wasnt too bad. not built a pit before (and you are sort of the guy on simv to be talking to about it) but i did a bit of research into the computers and general hardware section (that is where any of my employment comes from, IT services)

it would be about that price if i built the motion bit myself- ive heard people build a 6 DOF simulator frame for $2k, and as i want to make mine strong, good and durable, a $10k price range isnt too bad

I dont plan to build anything until i do get an income. ive spent far too much time in the past dreaming and then getting shot in the back by not having a change at affording it

I may only be 14, but when i have the ability to do something i am commited.

hmm, as cool as it would be to have unlimited rotation in a simpit, it would be pretty damn costly and hard to make, so if i ever build it, it will be stationary for a long time, and maybe even only a small frame for rotations later on
