If it only had the right number of rows of buttons on either side of the screen, it would make a great FMC/CDU.  Oh well.  Still interesting.

smashie,

Aha!  Good find!  I missed that news.

The yoke looks great for someone making a GA pit.  Unfortunately they positioned that chronometer right where us "heavy metal" guys will want to mount a clipboard in the center of a yoke.  What were they thinking  ::) .

I wonder about the physical dimensions and the construction materials.  I find that the CH yoke is smaller than "real life" by just enough to be a bit annoying.  And the lightweight "feel" of it is also annoying.

Anyway... thanks for posting that.

best,

BYE BYE CH!

I've had a variety of Saitek hardware... and apparently will be adding more. :) I love the quality... all my saitek stuff still works, it only gets replaced because I want shinier new toys.

The yoke and throttle look great (but as John said there's a clock wher the chart clip should be) are will join the X52 Pro (replacement for the current X52) and pedals that I'm ordering soon. I haven't decided about those displays yet... they look cool, but there are too many questions as of right now to decide.

What surprises me is the choice of display in the yoke... if they had lifted the display out of the X52 Pro then the clipboard issue might never come up. By modifying the display software they could get the alphanumeric display to do just about everything except approach plates... which would really soften the heavy/GA questions!

Steve,

I'm guessing it's just a cheap digital stopwatch.  Likely a Chinese import.  Looks "sexy" and slick and expensive........... and costs a maximum of pennies to actually install in a hole left in the palstic injection (which means less actual plastic used)..... a manufacturing "win/win".  Adds sizzle....without needing a steak behind it.  ;)

I found a closeup of the display on another site... it appears to have the clock/stopwatch/mode identifier functions common to the X52 series, but without the area used to identify the profile in use. This makes sense... the profile is going to be FS after all, what other civvie flight sim is there?

http://saitekusa.stores.yahoo.net/fligcon.html

Some better images and info are found at the Saitek USA store site... including the fact that the throttle quadrant includes switches at the minimum travel position. Those switches will make it a simple task to assign thrust reversers. :) The quadrants are also stackable... you can easily mount a second quadrant right beside the first to give you throttles for a heavy plus flap and spoiler levers (hopefully Saitek thinks to include the right handles).

This stuff is going to be a major boon to FS enthusisasts... it looks to up the reaslism level over the CH standard at a very competitive price. If the quality holds up then CH is going to have to respond or be relegated to the obolete pile.

Hopefully SOMEBODY will develop a force feedback yoke.

Oh, me likey, me likey!

Now the only problem is the number of options that have suddenly exploded for parts for a home-build cockpit.  Gah!  My mind is going to explode.

So, let's review:

CH Products.
Saitek.
Moto-tech Cockpits.

Argh!  Decisions, decisions!  And just a week ago I would have said CH Products all the way.  Well, what to do?

OK, someone convince all these manufactures we are a serious review site for the Flight Simulator community, and get them to send us free samples!!! Quick!!!

Actually, tough decisions aside, that there are more options now in the market could be great news if it leads to a little bit of pricing competition.  Also, I have the utmost respect for everyone who scratch-built their own controls and displays, but I admit that I am glad I don't have to do it all anymore.  I know, I know, that sounds terribly under-dedicated to the craft, but . . . what can I say?  Some days I just want to fly.  :-[ ;D

Meh, I am wandering again.  OK, so who is going to be the first to set up a side-by-side comparison of the options?

Drooling and dreaming,
~Darrin
