Splitting audio

Does anyone know if it is possible to split the CFS2 radio call audio from the rest of the sim audio (i.e., engine sound, gunfire, etc.)? I'm sure you would have to use two sound cards, but is there a way to assign these sounds to different cards?

I doubt it can be done in software, but it can be handled (sort of) by hardware. GoFlight makes a headset adapter for comms that basically accomplishes this:
http://www.goflightinc.com/order/produc ... ucts_id=33You wouldn't need some of the features of that rig perhaps, to get just the voice breakout you would want a band-pass filter to allow only those frequencies to come to the headset. Pass the original sound to the speakers.
Some "Optimized for Voice" headsets may have this feature built in.

One thing I thought of (and not sure if it could work) is if you could split the sounds by file type. For example, convert all the radio call sound files to .snd (or other type) and leave all the other sound files as .wav. Then set it up so that the .wav files go to one card and the .snd (or other type) go to the other card. Hmmmm.

Wouldn't that cause CFS 2 to fail to find the files when it called for them? They have the wronf filetype extension after all.

Good point, SF. Maybe that wouldn't work too well after all.
I happen to run across a thread in a different sim forum in which they were discussing what seemed to be the same question. It sounded like they managed to split the sounds across two sound cards somehow to put radio traffic on headsets and engine sound on speakers. I may try to contact a couple of them to find out how they did it. Here is a link to the thread:

Professor,
I THINK they are talking "apples to oranges" compared to what you are thinking of doing.
VATSIM has a separate voice client program for the LIVE ATC voices coming from the controllers on their online network. I THINK they are talking of that in that thread quoted above. In that case it is possible to split the ATC audio from aircraft sounds.... because they are generated by different sources.
You can currently use something like Teamspeak to route online audio to a headset separate frrom the aircraft sounds generated by the sim. But that is not what you want.
Not sure if this is correct........ but from a fast scan of that thread.... I think it is.
