Homemade LCD projector: coupla snags...

Looking for some input here from those who've tried the LCD/overhead projector thing...
Problem #1: not really a problem, just a little bummer... got a free LCD, but it'll only handle up to 800x600. I figure it's worth a try just for "proof-of-concept" if nothing else, but has anybody done this with an 800x600 panel, and how did it look (with MSFS)?

Problem #2: Said LCD is NOT a monitor, with a nice hardwired VGA input jack... it's part of a laptop. Seems logical that I could get an HD15 connector onto the input circuit, but is it even worth the trouble? Anybody done this with an integrated panel before?
I may try it anyway,; the thing cost me nothing. I've soldered plenty of HD15s in my day, and I'm sure I can suss out the pinout, but it all depends on how delicate the cables are...
should be interesting.
;D

Well, been looking around, and discovered that this cannot be done without a controller circuit- these laptop LCDs only accept digital input, and the encoding is not standardized, so no, using my card's DVI output will not work. So I'm back to Phase 1- be damned if I'm going to buy a controller and mess with that in the hopes of using a cheesy 8x6 panel for this project, when I can just bite the bullet and find a good deal on a proper LCD monitor.
I enjoy tinkering, but I prefer to fly the sim... ;D
If any other naive souls are thinking of trying to hack a laptop screen to use as a monitor, read this:
