Urgent question/Extending Joystick

Hey, I am extending a Wingman Force 3D Joystick. I have the handle taken apart. I dont need the buttons on the joystick to be functional, I have real switches, and whatnot that do what the joystick switches would do. My plans are to take apart the handle, extend the actual stick mechanism with PVC pipe. I was going to rewire the button wires, but do i really need to? All I need is the forward/aft, left/right action, no buttons!  Also, if I do need to, whats a cheep joystick with few buttons, that would be easy to do this too, because the Logitech Wingman isnt to simple, lol.

You could just cut the buttons of if you dont need them, i did..
