Question for John-Monitors

Johh, going through the old threads I can't seem to find where you said how big your monitors in the main panel are. I could have sworn that I saw it before... :(

I'm trying to design that section of my own pit right now and feedback on what has been done by others is very useful...and our two panels are very similar in the display area.

Silverfox,

The MIP (main instrument panel) facing "hides" three VDT monitors.  The left one is for the PFD and some other instruments like a stand alone radio altimeter, an alerts panel, and so on.  It is a 15" monitor.  Next to it to the right is the monitor that will hold the ND and the trio of "primary backup guages" and it is a 17" monitor.  To the right of that is another 15" monitor that will hold the Upper / Lower EICAS.  On the slanting center pedestal is the last of the monitors... another 15" one that will be the TACAS and the FMC display.

Back somewhere in the early construction threads is the dimensions for the panel instrument facings themselves.... that were taken from pictures (with tape measures in them) which I found somewhere on the net of the Airbus VDT screens.

Hope this helps.  Is this what you wanted?

best,

................john

It helps a lot!

I've been trying to finalize my design before cutting the first pieces of MDF. I just couldn't figure out how to get a design similar to yours to hold up a pair of 19" monitors without major reinforcement that you don't seem to have.

Now I know...you don't have to hold up a pair of 19" monitors. I think I'll go with one 19" and one 15"...it will simplify things a fair bit.

Thanks John.

Silverfox,

Look at the first three or four construction threads... you can see in detail the construction of the MIP support structure out of MDF.

I'm going to make both the MIP shelf and the primary display shelf out of 3/4" MDF. I was thinking of putting in the centre pillar...but was trying to avoid that plan as it meant constructing rudder pedals rather than using CH pedals.

Oh well, I've got a plane around here somewhere for a set of custom pedals. :)

I'll build around the CH Pro Pedals at first.... but go take a look at the Goflight Pedals  ;).

Or I might "hack" the CH ones.
