Question re: Goflight units

John, I've noticed that you are using a GF-45 unit on your glaresheild...what's it do?

I can see the XPDR setting, but does it do anything else?

I'm thinking of buying my first two GF units and am trying to figure out how much long term use I'll get out of them, ie. will they be in the final config?

Current plan is 1 GF-46 and 1 GF-RP48. This seems to offer the greatest short term gain...but what can I do with that GF-46 in the final 'pit? :)

I already know I need at least one RMK-T8 unit for various switches I want working...no need to pay the extra cash for the boxed version.

Silverfox,

While the various Goflight modules can be configured in multiple ways, I am trying to set things up so that each unit is pretty much "dedicated".  So the GF-45 on the glareshield is currently the transponder.  That is all it will be.  Likely I will cover the upper led display of the word XPDR .......looks very unrealistic.  Might cut a new faceplate for the unit.

I can STRONGLY recommend the GF-166 VRP's for your radio stack.  They look and function VERY much like the real thing.  I now have four on the center pedestal with a RP=48 as an "audio control panel".

I don't have a GF-46 unit (yet).  They seem like a good multipurpose unit...... but until Doyle sets it up for DME in the software....... I haven't found a use for it.  SO I agree that I'm not sure about long term use for you.  But I am sure that you can sell it used on EBay.

And by the way.... check out "Phidgets" with the "FS2Phidget" software for another REALLY nice simpit building interface.  I plan on getting their "LED64" unit to power all the annunciator lights and indicator leds (up to 64) on the main panel, glareshield, and overhead.

best,

.....................john

I finally figured out what the GF-46/RP-48 pair will do in the final build...

They'll be the MCP. :)

I'm not so much demanding of realism that this combo won't work for me...it also strikes me as very similar to the MCP that was fitted after the avionics upgrade to the CC-117's that I once worked on.
