Hi all,

Frustrated at not being able to find just what I want on the open market, I've started thinking about the possibilities of making something of my own.

I aim to create a unit that provides three rotary controls for trim (elevator, aileron and rudder) and a number of toggle switches for other functions (lights, gear, hook, etc)

I'm pretty sure I can build the box itself and even install the various controls, but I'm worried about the electronics as I have no background in this area at all.

Looking around at some of the options, X-keys Matrix Boards look as if they would be the way to go - apparently they are nice and easy to use (ease of use is something of a relative term, however... )

Does anyone have any experience of this hardware, and if so do they have any suggestions on how to source appropriate switches, potentiometers, etc?

That X-keys thing dosnt look like it can do potentiometers. for a cheaper way to just do buttons and switches, check this out - http://www.simpits.org then click on Engineering>electronics>keyboard emulator. This method has its drawbacks though, for one, it cant do toggle switches, and for another it takes some skill to solder wires to those tiny conact points on the board.

Hi Padser and welcome to the "Homebuild Cockpits" Forum.

The Goflight RP-48 might be "just the ticket" for what you want.  It is totally "plug and plau" usb.  I have a number of Goflight units and they are top notch.

Lacking that ....... and for more of a homebuilt approach..... check out the Phidgets usb 8/8/8 interface board... 8 analoge inputs, 8 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs.

Hope this gets you going in a helpful direction.
