Trim wheel

Postby TacitBlue » Thu Nov 25, 2004 6:32 am

Maybe some of you guys could give me some advice. I have constructed a small "button panel" with what was left over from a set of rudder pedals (see topic "home made rudder pedals") it includes, among other things, a trim wheel (more of a knob really), anyway, I mounted the knob directly to the stem of the potentiometer instead of using gears. it works fine, but it is a tad sensitive. I can deal with it if the sensitivity is turned way down. The problem is, when using it, and then switching to auto pilot I have problems, the AP cant keep a steady altitude. when I disable the trim wheel, and trim with the keyboard I do not have this problem. any advice? should I have used gears instead?

~S~

I've noticed similar behaviour when setting elevator trim to any axis on any commercially available stick I've owned too - in CFS1 and CFS2 that is - I don't hold with this civilian flying... ;).

Autopilot uses the trim controls to maintain straight and level flight - when you assign trim to an axis the axis setting seems to override all others, including the minor adjustments that AP is trying to make.

CFS1 and CFS2 trim works better when assigned to a button (when it's being used properly that is...)

ok, thanks for the info, I have just decided to put my trim on 3 way rocker switches, that should work.
