First Cockpit, need help

Postby aces155 » Mon Aug 30, 2004 4:00 pm

Hey Guys,  Im trying to build a setup for my combat gamging experiences..  I just got a new house and dad has offered to buy new furniture, now I wanna get a nice leather chair, but it needs to be set in a way so I can add my Saitek x45 setup on wings on either side of the chair.

Problem is, I cant find any plans online that show me how to do this, and I dont know what kind of chiair it will work on.  Do you know any websites with plans or possibly have and advice for me?

aces155,

Hi and welcome to SimV.

I imagine that in a couple of days someone will have a good suggestion for you.

Until then, maybe look at some of the threads here that have links to some of the other cockpity building info on the web.  I remember seeing some sort of chair setup somewhere along the line.  There is also an interesting thread in ths forum back a few pages that has a setup that is basically a home built chair with addons for controls in front and to the sides.

My own quick thought....... build a frame that is designed to fit AROUND the comfortable chair that you buy...and can "lock" to it so that they don't move.  Then you can bring out your "simulator frame" when you want to fly... and have a chair for other things.

Hope something here helps.

best,

......................john

I was thinking about that idea... does anyone have any suggestions on moderatly priced building materials for the cockpit frame, so it will fit around the chair...  I was thinking alluminum, but it needs to be able to fold up a bit to fit in the closet.  ANy links to sites that sell that kind of stuff?

Hello Aces155,

Here's some advice on scrounging materials:

Wood and thin masonite work pretty well, and are often cheaper than aluminum.  Sometimes you can find some good aluminum scrap parts at your local metal recycling center.   Check out any new home construction in your neighborhood.  Often, they have scrap lumber pieces that they are happy to give away.
