Maybe?

This idea has always fascinated me, but I've always put it off.  Now I'm seriously asking myself.  Could one make a cockpit for not too much money?  If I make one, it'll probably be based on an F4U's cockpit.

605,

Hi.

I guess a lot depends on how you define "a lot of money".

Yowsa!

Hi Baymore, :)
Realism?  I'd be pretty satisfied with just the inside of the cockpit with monitors or TVs encircling the visual area.  But I'd expect every knob and switch that is applicable to work and turn and such.  The F4U is a World War II fighter, but I also like flying the civil simulators, but I can't make two cockpits.  Corsair's my favorite airplane...  I'm stickin' to the Corsair! ;D
My dad has tons of hand tools laying around his garage, even an oxy-rig welder, so I was thinking metal construction would be the better, and more authentic, way to go, but I think he has far more timbers laying around.  The real big appeal this "Simpit" has for me is the fact that to check your six, you turn your head, can this be done?  I've heard of two monitors being used by a computer, but, can, say, 5-7 monitors be used?

Price?  A good price for me would be $50.  Screw a real nose!  I'll build one myself if wanted one in the first place! ::) Guess that's what it takes for some people tho'.  I wouldn't like to spend more that $100 on guages and TVs or monitors I could find from resale shops and such.

Thanks for the comprehensive response. ;) :-*
