gameport to USB... does it work on vista?

yesterday i tried once again to convert old pedals into rudder pedals, but it failed so im skipping it.

anywho... instead i am going to go ask my school if i can use their laser cutter, and make my own out of 5mm or so thick plastic.


the only problem is, i will need to use a gameport connection for it to work. and the second problem is that vista doesnt support gameport.


will getting a gameport to USB converter fix this problem?


any good tutorials for making the rudders also appreciated. ive roughly drawn up how it will look already.

Before you invest in a gameport to usb adapter look up a joystick controller or hack an actual usb joystick, just for the ability to add more controls down the road and also the cost of a joystick controller is around the same price as a usb/from gameport controller.

This option of course will require some re-wiring of the rudder pedals.

That joystick controller comes from your island by the way. I have one but my build hasn't started yet. I also think it could come in handy if you wanted to build a throttle quad down the road.

Another point, that controller will not support latching switches, you know ON/OFF toggle switches.

Leo is a prince - enormously helpful.

And IMHO the kit is well worth it whatever the currency (;)) - I'd recommend that you go for the high resolution version.

I use mine in combination with Total Game Control so I can program keystrokes to the buttons, etc.

Actually, there is a way of doing that - described elsewhere on this forum (c/o Chuckrc - http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1145609154

You would also need to include diodes in your switch circuits though as having more than 3 switches on at once will cause you difficulties. BTW I use on-off-on switches and they work very nicely (very limited electrical engineering know-how precluding Chuck's clever approach mentioned above)
