back lighting

Looking around trying to figure what medium to use for back lighting. First I was checking out electroluminescent strips:

Only problem I have with these is they run of 120Ac which kinda scares me as a potential fire hazard. But a cockpit fire could add to the realism of flight simming, hmm Im still up in the air on this.


Second choice were super bright LED's, found these cool little driver boards for hooking up 1w jobers:

The LEDS will be long life and super low as far as power needs.


I don't know the possibility of a cockpit fire sounds exciting.

You don't need to use LEDs that powerful... and driver boards aren't needed for lower power (and cost LEDs).

John, have you looked at the backlighting method described  here: http://www.hanskrohn.com/start.htm

Check the Building Tips page if you haven't seen it. The method is much cheaper than others and the basic material is commonly available locally.

Yeah  got the idea from hans looking at it he is using the 12v from the pc power supply and basic hook-up board. Those LED's he is using are about 1 buck a pop. Im gonna have to pick his brain when the time comes, I think the biggest problem Im gonna have is setting up the print-outs to line up.
