IO cards Vs Go Flight

Postby ermias » Sun Mar 04, 2007 12:47 am

Hello all, I am building my simpit's FMC using DYT kits from opencockpits (Spain) and I am close to finish it. My second project was to build a radio stack using the same kits from open cockpits, ( http://www.andare-ing.com/uploads/Openc ... ADIO_i.pdf ) but the whole process including shipping is going to cost US$150.

I decided to try Go Flight's GF-166 or GF-46 which cost the same and built and tested. Now my question is can I use one of these without the GF-P8 which the online manual suggests? Has anyone used/is using one of them? If so, can I program them to perform all thCOM/NAV/ADF/XPDR functions say...by pressing a dedicated button on them? Or are they made to handle only one funciton unless they are connected with the GF-P8?

Any help appreciated.
Regards, ermias

With the GF-46 you can program 6 functions:

Thankyou very much. This is reassuring. I will decide which to order after I hear what you will have to say tomorrow. Thank you for the quick reply again.

My apologies for not getting back sooner but yesterday was manic.

The 166 will only store 2 different radios  you can then use one of the buttons to switch the radio

COM1 - COM2,
COM1 - NAV1,
NAV1 - NAV2,
COM2 - NAV2,
ADF - XPDR.

However with a GF-P8 you can program 6 functions : NAV1, NAV2, COM1, COM2, ADF & XPNDR (XPNDR does not have a standby mode).  The other 2 buttons can be programmed for NEXT and PREV so that you can cycle through.

Yeah... and that is a BIG oversight.

Thnkyou both Jim and John for the detailed help about the Go Flight radios. I am very much interested in the GF-166 as it is more realistic and gives the flexibility of having swapable functionality. But one must purchase several of them to exercise the full range of navigation systems. At the same time the GF-46 is a lot cheaper and incooprates all the functions even if it doesn't allow standby modes.
I guess, for now, I will order the GF-46 and I will gradually upgrade to the more realistic GF-166 in the future. Thanks again.

If you use the 46 remember that you will need to amend your Aircraft.cfg files to remove the standby frequency.
