Annoying Nav/ADF morse noise

Postby ermias » Sun Oct 29, 2006 10:45 pm

Hi all,
I am constantly annoyed by the morse noise generated while using the Nav1, Nav2 and ADF. Is there anyway to stop the sound without reducing the volume? I need them for my ND, but I don't like the noise they make.

My ohter question is I read in this forem that to view flight plan in the Free FD's ND one can use the old SB flight plan format(John's post on Free FD). Can someone show me how? I tried to get the older version SB, but I couldn't.

ermias,

I use FlightSim Commander as a flight planner specifically because it will save flightplans in the old Sqawkbox format (as well as the new one, the native FS format, and also in a number of other formats).

John,
I tried FS Commander and it is lovely except that one can't save in the trial mode. At the moment I am debating between FS Commander and FSXpand. Eventually I will have both but for now I am thinking FSXpand would be better to have at hand for my immediate flight deck needs.

ermias,

You are probably right.  You can always fly without the "magenta line" on the FreeFD ND display and navigate other ways.  Sometimes I just read the fixes off the paper flight plan and then look at them on the ND display and set a course by routing myself through them.

But you really kind of need a lot of other gauges.  ;)

I never had any luck with the FreeFD engine gauges.... terrible framerates.  And I remember people on the FreeFD wensite talking about the same.  That's where FsExpand comes in.  It works well even on minimal machines.

One problem with the FreeFD ND database file is that it is very outdated.  So new fixes, VOR changes, and so on are not added.  I tried looking at the ND database.... but could not figure out what format it is in.  There is a project for someone with some solid contemporary programming skills; figuire out how to update the old ND database with the current airac.

best,

..........john

Ermias... you don't need to have Nav1, Nav2, ADF, etc. selected in order for them to work.  Just tune up the frequency and it should work automatically.  The morse code is just an identifier to make sure that you are tuned in to the correct navaid.  In real life, you would never leave the identifier on cause if would drive you up the wall, excpet on an ndb approach.  If you are IMC, inboand to the station on an nbd approach, if the station malfunctions, youd never know.

Not sure if you're talking about radio sound within MSFS, but if so:

Call up the radio panel, and look at the audio panel or annunciator panel.
It has buttons for each receiver; pushing the button either enables or disables sound from that receiver.
It doesn't turn the receiver itself on or off, just the sound.

NOTE: in MSFS, many models also do this via the "ident" button on many receivers, but the annunciator (or "audio") panel buttons will override that, and vise-versa.

Thankyou verymuch. Sorry for being late to reply. Actually I realized this by accident when I observed the morse being silent while all the nav-aids were functioning properly. I shouldn't have selected the buttons at the first place.
